Tyres

I intend to use my GT for commuting for the next few weeks and so need some ideas for semi-slick tyres that would be suitable.
2nd of all, I'm not sure of the quality of the tyres that came as standard on the GT (Avalanche 1.0 '07) and was wondering if they are worth the upgrade? I have no point of reference for their performance so don't know if I am missing out on something!!
Thanks
Neil.

Kenda Nevegal's as OE on the 07 Avalanche. Good tyres, but not for commuting on.
Are you going to be solely on the road when commuting, or do you want something that will handle a little light off road abuse?

solely on the road for the commute. I don't get to go riding on trails too often so I can just change back to the others when needed.
Are semi-slick tyres a good choice?

I use Panaracer Mach SS (Semi Slick) on my 'beer scooter' they are quite good, but I can't compare them to a full slick as I haven't used them on a MTB.

I've just bought a set of Continental Sport Contact 26x1.6 for my GT, they're slicks, but I wasn't really happy with my route to work with these (worried about slipping on road and getting squashed by lorries), so, I've got some Continental City Contact 26x2.1. Now these are ideal, i've also fitted them with Slimeliners.
Bought them from www.velokit.co.uk for œ35.90.

Ok, cool thanks. Was hoping to keep cost down to a min but looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet!

Yeah, definitely. Just did the same search myself - thanks. What sort of pressures should they be run at?

I have some Conti Travel Contacts. Very, very good for commuting on with a slick centre and knobbly edges for if you decide to corner...
They also have, on mine, a year's puncture guarentee and free innertube with each.

I am just about to buy Continental Sport Contacts for my Giant, as i am going to be cummuting 20 miles a day and wanted max speed on the roads. I haven't made my mind up whether to get the 1.3 or 1.6, did you find the 1.6 too small? What do you suggest for fast road riding with no punctures?"Come on you Greens"0
