Grease!

Going to buy some grease tommorrow for general bits but mainly for a fork steerer tube, when i am building my bike in a few days, but what should i buy, bearing in mind it has to be Steerer Tube suitable

Halfords teflon grease

New geared inbred frame is here, an Nzyme to churn up the mud in winter and a single speed Schwinn Frontier which will be sold or disolved

I was always under the impression that you shouldn't grease the steerer tube.

I didn't grease there when i built me bike. Only put a little on the crown race so it slipped on easily. But halfords teflon or lithium is good stuff.

so do i not need to put any on the Steerer Tube? moving Metal on Metal doesnt sound too good? Also, any grease for a Seat Post?

I would put it on the steerer tube and also a little on the seat post, especially if you are using it off road

Seatpost wise, I'd get some anti sieze assembly grease... Well, I should say I got some...

Let's see, if you want to be a pedant then in bearings you want Rock N Roll Super Web, in your headset outside of the bearings lithuim grease can be good, otherwise Halfords Teflon or Park Poly lube. On threaded stuff Shimano or Finish Line anti sieze is good... Likewise on QRs etc.
For coaster and internal gear hubs Shimano make a good grease... err... copper slip is good for Titanium and Lithium grease IIRC is useful if you smear a tiny amount in bolts which you think may go rusty.

Anti sieze and red teflon is all you really ever need though.

The only metal touching metal on the steerer is where the bearing touch and thats what they are for! Non of the rest of the tube will touch anything.
Grease might stop it going rusty though.
