Hardtail for > œ1000

OMG I can't believe I'm asking this!

Have scrapped the idea for a Zaskar team build.

Now I'm not sure whether to hold on to my cash and get the carbon Zaskar that's release later this year, or pursue other avenues.

Considered:

Merlin / Rock Lobster Ti with XT kit
Merlin / Rock Lobster Team TIG with XT kit
Possibly some kind of Orange hardtail

But running out of ideas, so I need you helpful chaps to perhaps give me some ideas I've not thought about.

y'know, its strange you mention that.

i was lookin at a 303 frame reduced to 400 and i thought hmm.....

then today, while reading thru some old mags, i saw the boss of pace on a 303. the only thing i dont fancy is running 140mm forks up front. looks a nice bit of kit though

    ooo, touch‚ [:D]

Howsabout a nice Handjob build? Got to be better than a Zaskar - all these years and they've still got the same blind alcoholic welding the ends of the seatstays to the wrong place. [:p]

Charge bikes worth a look too?

  • Those welds will last longer than the frame! How very dare you. Anyway, it's not the look so much as the ride.

Mind you, having rebuilt my Zaskar up, albeit with the tora's wound down, it's freakin' lush to ride. Have just ordered some Nobby Nic / Racing Ralph tyres (or, for the American out there, TIRES) and a pair of Maxxlite inner tubes. MMM!

Have just put a bid in for some SID's too. I'm not planning on getting them it was just a cheeky bid. You never know sometimes!

Charge Duster Ti *creams pants* would love one. That's one of the reasons I'm looking at the Merlin / Lobster ti bikes. It's tempting.

Never really looked at Cove though. Just on their site now havin a gander.

Still, can see myself holding out for the Zaskar Carbon. Maybe. Oh, who knows!?

I'm also looking for similar and am considering the Focus Raven Pro http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... 5360026035

Love the bike and great kit. Has anyone experience as I haven't been able to find any reviews?

Also really like the look of the Rock Lobster Ti (and upgraded forks).

    Hmmmmm.... decisions decisions!

  • There's something about Raven bikes I don't like. I think it's the germanic look - narrow flat bars look twitchy to me.

Be-one bikes have a nice one. I'd get some nice lo-riser's on it.

    Check this.

Last week I ordered the Rock Lobster Team Tig SL in black with Reba forks, black rims & spokes.
Eagerly waiting arrival for this week.[:p]
I looked at the Evo 8 and the Merida Matts TFS 900 D, but they just can't compete with the Team Tig on spec and looks.
    All for œ1047 + delivery.[:D]
  • If I was startting over again I`d be looking at one of the RLs,because as a whole package, its pretty much how I would spec it out of the box.

Since swapping to the Rebas, though my XTC rides brilliantly and is the right bike for my needs, for my short xc blasts right now.
