Hi all was just wondering, how often you lot get through brake pads. Had my bike 4 months now and had to change the back pads last week, is this quick or about right?

Hard question to answer as there are so many variables - type of pad compound, how hard they are used, what conditions you ride in etc?? Sintered pads should last longer than standard resin ones, in typical British conditions.

Assuming you mean disc brake pads...
It all depends on how much you ride, where you ride, what pads are fitted, etc... (Shimano std pads are supposed to be made of butter they wear out that fast!)
I have had pads last over a year (sintered ones)
Have you replaced the front's too? I only ask as the front brake is where most of the stopping power comes from, maybe if you're using the back brake all the time it could explain the short lifespan.

Mine that came with the Hayes Hyd brakes on my old Trek Fuel 90 didn't get changed for nearly 2 years and i was all over in Wales, Lakes etc....I din't know much about brakes back then and thought if they still stopped you they were ok.[:o)]

Generally pads last all summer and about 2-3 months in the Winter for me.

I wore out the standard ones that came on my Hardrock Sport in 1 month (well the front needs replacing - I doubt the rear has been worked so hard)...
Any recommendations on replacements?0 -
Hope Mono Mini's sintered, 18 months so far or at least weekly use and many Swinley trips (I d clean em with disk cleaner after each ride though

The pads that came with my Juicy 5's (as supplied with the bike) are lasting unbelievably long. They might not get a great deal of trail abuse but they've been driven to some seriously high temperatures 5 days a week for 3 months.
Ended up with some grit in the rear at the weekend but it cleared itself thanks to the rotor design.0 -
MPH-3 pads that came with my XTC 7-8 months of fairly active use in all weathers. Still going strong. Cleaned and checked regularly.0
-
The brake pads in my HFX9 has lasted around 10 months and have just gone. Thats with riding in whatever the weather may be, and a week of France which finished them off. The Avid Code I have on the front however has done about 6 months and the pads need changing in that very soon.0

I recon I've had about 6-8 months out of the last set, changed them last week.Advocate of disc brakes.0
-
Mine have lasted over a year!!!! On hayes mx2 and im never off my bike!!0
-
Resin pads don't last as long as Metal ones. The pads that came with my LX hydraulics (on the Club Roost) have lasted since summer 05. Had plenty of use too. Can't say i've had a problem with the M4 pads on the Orange either (5 months use).0
-
Entirely depends on where i am riding. I rode Dalby a couple of times in very wet conditions and the pads were gone from front and back in 2 months0
-
I've burnt out the pads in my Avids in a single ride in shitty conditions, but I now use Fibrax sintered pads and haven't changed them in 10 months.0
-
I have juicy 7's on my Endruo Mmm. 4 months would be about right I guess, my fronts seem to last a lot longer than the rears.
I think I've got about a days worth left on my Norco's Juicy 5's, I've only rode it on 3 days, but they've all been at Cwm Carn DH track by a complete novice DH'er and the weather / mud / grit has be appalling everytime.0 -
in my formula b4's they i went through two sets of front pads and obne set of rear last summer. surprisingly, only one set in the winter! cant say for my avids, havent had them long enoughI said hit the brakes not the tree!!

The pads that came as standard with my Avid 7's last an amazing 9 months. I say amazing because I ride to work and back every day and go on at least one long ride at the weekend! I was well impressed with the length of time they lasted!2011 Yeti ASR5 carbon: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5817307/

in wet muddy contitions, a resin pad will wont last. last weekend i saw a guy go through a set of resin pads in a day at afan. i did question this but he was insistant. a pair of sintered(metal) pads will last alot longer but you might notice a loss in performance. personally i don't find there's that much difference, especially doing trail riding.0
