Folks, wanted to bring your attention to lots of hard work done by the Kielder Trail Reivers. The only thing I've done was the Hot Trod marathon / race some weeks ago I hasten to add...

Dear all,
The countdown is well underway to the grand trail opening which has now been confirmed for Monday 23rd July. We're lucky enough to have Steve Cram as the Guest of Honour and Steve (who's also a mountain biker!) will be officially opening the trail. The proposed schedule is as follows:
09:00 KTR meet up (likely to be Kielder Castle - tbc)
10:30 Press meet at the Castle and photo session (hopefully including MBUK?)
12:00 to 13:00 Lunch at the Castle
13:30 Opening ceremony at Castle Wood Skills Loop followed by the first official rides of the routes. The FC are laying on 2-3 minibuses to ferry visitors to various parts of the route so they can watch the first riders through the trail. Lets make sure they've got plenty to watch.
We're also proposing that KTR will be meeting on Sunday morning (09:30 - 10:00) to put the finishing touches to the trail to be followed by a ride and celebratory BBQ/ pub (depending on the weather). We'll then camp at Kielder overnight so we're be there early on Sunday (hopefully not too hungover).
Please come and show your support for the trails. Its been an amazing 18 months where we've started from scratch and progressed to the cracking trails we have on the ground now. If you've been involved in the trail building this is a chance to finally see all the hard work you've put in come to fruition! If you've not been involved come and enjoy a great MTB day-out anyway. This is also a fantastic opportunity to showcase Kielder's potential to the press and funders. Hopefully the Deadwater trails are only the start!
Hope to see you all there. Please let us know whether you can attend or not.
Thanks,
Martin

We checked out the trails a couple of weeks ago - a few tough sections but some really nice work!

The trails at kielder are indeed very good, checked them out a few weeks ago before they were totally finished and even then they were great to ride. They are more XC based than jump/DH type trails but still great to ride. There is some nice tricky rocky amd north shore stuff on the black runs and the red stuff is as you'd expect fast, flowing and bermy. Make sure to make the climb all the way to the top of Dead water fell for the natural rocky bridleway that drops off the top and then straight back into the man made singletrack, good stuff indeed.
Hats off to the Kielder trail reaver and F.C. for putting some great trails together, can't wait for the next lot to be built, well worth a visit for anyone in the northeast.
