looking to spend around œ1500 on a new hardtail, My local shop is a Trek dealer so was looking at the 8500 disc, only problem is you cannot demo it anywhere, I was just seeing if anyone with a 2007 version could comment on it. I have also demo'd the Marin indian firetrail which was pretty good, what else would anyone recommend in the price range, I need it mainly for XC I live by the ridgeway so it will spend most of it's time on that, not really intersted in technical/downhill, my Mongoose, despite it's current condition can deal with these, just want something thats fast for my races.

Cannondale hardtail for that price, nicest hardtail frame out of the major manufacturers and light and resposive. They also keep their second hand value very well.

This price range will get you a titanium framed bike from the likes of Van Nicholas, well worth looking into.0

Scott Scale 30! No other bike I'd rather have. You should be able to try one out at Aston Hill on 28th or 29th July as Buckingham Bikes are having a demo day there in conjunction with Scott and Giant.0

Log onto Trek website and look for the demo days around the UK.They have loads of bikes for test. Why not look at the Fuel range.Short travel XC bikes full suspension.Keeps things comfortable.Me http://www.flickr.com/photos/8779009@N03/622132744/
