Will anyone else admit to....

....driving under a headroom-limiting bar at the entrance of a car park having forgotten your bike's on the roof? Like I did today.

Oh well could have been worse; the bike is undamaged just a few scratches on the headset (but cable rub has done worse [:D]), the back wheel popped out of my fapa velo and rested nicely on the back window without pushing the carrier into my roof, the front wheel bent the part of the carrier it was strapped in to up and back but held the bike on the car, and the grip/lock broke relasing the down tube without damaging it.

Plus, if I didn't do it today I would have done it a few weeks having driven all the way up to the lakes, with both our bikes on the roof instead of just one, almost certainly one or the other would have scartched and dented my car, and we wouldn't have been able to fit them both in the boot afterwards. Also had a laugh with the witnesses [:D]

Just need to buy one replacement carrier now [:I]

I did a similar thing a few months back, drove into rather than under a low bridge with two bikes on top of the car...DOH

Fortunately there was no damage to the bikes but most of the bike/roof rack was a write off[:(]...I also felt like a major idiot after it[:o)]

not thought about that as mine goes in the estate however now that wifeys looking for one ill have to bear that in mind if i roof carry one, glad the bikes all ok

I have done it twice[:I]

Once at deapleap carpark at the Surry downs. There was an almighty bang as I drove of, looked into my rear view mirror to see the top wooden barrier on floor, opps. Lucky enough no damage to bike or car.

Second time was in carpark at bottom of leigh hill. I caught the barrier with my seatpost but lucky enough again no damage.

Not done it personaly cos if i drive the bike go in the back of the car, but my riding buddy has done before. Going into a multi storey with both our bikes on his boot mounted bike rack, didnt think about the height until we heard a crunch, whoops! no damage realy(only to his pride![:D]) and a few scratches. Also, he managed to knock someone over with the wheel of his bike sticking out of the side of his car on the rack, forgot how wide it was, double doh!

My day got even worse after that, I had sat-navved to a picnic spot that is the start of a route I got off the singeltrack website. It's a very concealed entrance, and I almost missed it - I might have skidded a bit slowing down to turn in. In all the excitement I had no chance seeing the bar which was unpainted galvanised grey, with the uprights hidden by bushes.

When I heard the crunch, I looked out and thought I had grounded on the speedbump across the entrance - my car is quite low and this happens every now and then - so I actually drove forwards a bit more dead slowly trying to clear it [:I]. It was only when I saw a bit of the carrier drop off in my mirror that I twigged [V]

OK then after figuring myself lucky with the little damage and embarassed laughs all round I set off on my route...but I couldn't find the first bridleway, turned around, went in the other direction....still couldn't find it....returned to the car to look at the atlas - I was 3 motorway junctions away [:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

I'd picked the completely the wrong spot on the satnav - marked the wrong road a bit away from the motorway, as it appeared on the OS map I'd printed off - but entirely coincidentally it also had a picnic site at it. If it was just fields I would have known I was in the wrong place and wouldn't have crunched my bike off the roof. How unlucky is that, what are the odds?!??

now that is unlucky mate, i cant say i have done it as i dont drive but when i get dropped of at somewhere like that the bike always goes in the back of my dads discovery,[;)] safest place for the bike to be buy the sounds of it[;)]

I think Fozzy is away (in the Alps?) otherwise he'd have posted.

But one of his favourite stories in when he did the very same.

Luckily he had a Kona Hoss at the time - so far more damage inflicted on the bariier - I believe the bike was fine.

Though he must be Geoff Capes to have got a Hoss on the roof in the first place!
