What Lock?
Hi all
Im after a new lock primarily as I am going to centre parcs next week and thought would take me bike instead of hiring one.
Whilst I am after something decent I dont really want to be spending 50 notes on the best kyptonite ones however does anyone have any suggestions.
My bikes prob worth around 400 to sell second hand?
Cheers

Buy two locks, a cable lock and a D lock. Abus Granit is a good buy.

My mates reckons I should just get the New York 3000 however the Abus Granit ones are just as pricey really0

Two locks are always a much bigger deterrant than one, and the cable can be used th thread through other components.

Thats what I was thinking for two locks, going to cost me a few quid more than I would have hoped but then again what price could it be if someone nicked me bike0

onguard bulldog ATB D-lock - cant beat it & only œ20 - I payed œ40 last year. Drawback is that it's very heavy indeed!
What ever you do dont use a cable. Even the top- rated Krypto's etc can be cut in a second with a small pair of bolt croppers. Apparently it's one of the most popular methods of bike theft.
A good chain for the same money is much tougher. Go for 8mm hardened links as minimum spec.
An Onguard Mastiff Chain Lock is œ18 for example - that's with a padlock included .

Genereally two locks are also more expensive than one[:D]
Personally I use the Spesh Rapper, light for what it is, coiled and easy to carry with you

Came across the below whilst searching..
No, there was nothing slinky about the OnGuard brand chains and locks protesters used to secure themselves to the front door of Victoria's Secrets on the West Side of Manhattan on November 9. The ardent environmentalists demanded that the lingerie company stop pulping virgin timber to pump out its never ending stream of slick catalogs - more than one million per day according to some estimates in bi-weekly mailings to customers.
Using OnGuard's heavy-duty locks, two members of the activist group Catalogs Without Clearcuts bolted their necks to the front door of the sultry wardrobe company's Broadway and 85th Street boutique and prevented shoppers from entering for nearly an hour.
Dozens of other protesters supporter the cause by chanting to early morning passers by - "Victoria's is stripping forests bare, just to sell your underwear!" and "Victoria Secret, don't you know it's wrong to log the forest to sell your thongs?"
According to the Village Voice, one of the region's most respected news organizations, the police took the demo in stride. At 10:40 a.m., a team from the NYPD's Emergency Services Unit arrived to cut the locks. First they attempted to clip the casehardened steel chains with a pair of giant bolt cutters. When that didn't work, they tried to saw through the links with a Sawzall. Finally they brought out the big guns-- a hydraulic powered Hurst tool (the kind used to pry people from car wrecks), which looked like a big lobster claw, and which snapped the links like celery stalks.
Stewart Goldsmith of OnGuard Locks mused, "I guess no one can accuse OnGuard locks of not being sexy." He added, "Seriously though, this news event was an odd testimonial to the strength and durability of our locks. Maybe this opens up an entirely new market for us - radical environmental organizations?"0 -

You'll be fine - I just my the lock around the frame + back wheel + the bike park scaffold thing & then take the front wheel off & get the lock around that too.
Cable's can be cut with hand tools really quickly. As fast as you can read this (-very useful to lock your helmet with though)
When you go, make sure you visit the trails in the forest (off the centreparc's site & 15 min ride away) - the staff can point you in the right direction..
Cheers
