Tyre sizes

I am looking to upgrade tyres on bike and currently run Spesh stock Roll-X 26 x 2.0 tyres. They need changing asap and looking at 2.10 tyres to replace. Should I consider 2.35 instead and what would be pros/cons of going larger volume tyre?

It has to fit in the frame! Not all 2.35 are the same. Larger volume will mean more cushinong and generally more grip, but tend to be slower rolling and heavier. Seems a bit overkill.

I think that 2.1 is perfect for xc riding all year round, enough rolling resistance, but also alot of grip and traction given good tread. Look at conti tyres, both explorers and speed kings.

Depends what type of riding you do, although if you have been using 2.0s up till now then probably 2.1s are the way to go.

You thought about what tyres you are going to get...different manufacturers have different ideas of what is 2.1, 2.3 etc

Conti SpeedKing/Explorer would be my choice for a fast rolling allround tyre.

2.1 Panaracer Fire XC Pro (folding), very good tyre for most conditions.

If I could only have one tyre for all year round use for every, it would have to be the continental explorer 2.1, no doubt. It rolls like a dream over dry stuff, but digs into mud and gives great traction, the 2.1 also makes it a bit easier to cut through mud faster.

Are you suggesting a different tyre on front and rear supersonic? Seems to be some love for Conti's here. What are the tyres I prev mentioned like?

Some people want a wider tyre up front as it is easier to loose control up front. Personally I have never done this on my MTB's

The kevlar beaded pro and Duraskin Protection are my choices. Don't go for the basic ones, always kevlar.

Some people want a wider tyre up front as it is easier to loose control up front. Personally I have never done this on my MTB's

...wider tyre=more grip and less chance to loose control

Are the explorers good for front and rear? How do they compare to Kenda nevegals/fire xc pro and maxxis high rollers?

Maxxis hight rollers in the xc verson are a very good tyre. I have the DH 2.35 ones and tehy are mega grippy. They also roll pritty fast with good cornering grip.

Back on topic..it depends on what the weather and terrain is like where you are going to be riding. How muddy? Rocky? Hardpack? Fields? Roads?

Speed Kings are crap?! What you been eating today?! As above, depends on terrain. SK is an allrounder with an emphasis on speed over dry and dusty conditions.

i love the off road, and when bought my bike it came wit continentals gravity tire, werent sure wot size they were taken off as soon as i bought the bike, but the spcialized 2.35 chunder tires i have now suit my riding (down hill), and have a good rolling center so not bad on the road either,

I have Conti speedkings on the Meta. This weekend tested them a bit with the wet at Dalby but they handled everything pretty well.Only in the true forest mud did they spin a bit but evreywhere else on the wet chalky sand forest trails they hooked up pretty well. In the dry they are a great tyre.

Oh i run 2.3's on both front and rear. Offers a bit more grip and grab IMO

I've got High Rollers on my Commencal Meta full-sus and Explorer/Vertical on my Orange P7 hardtail and the hardtail is definitely a lot faster rolling on tarmac/smooth/low-tech surfaces (though this may be partly due to the fact it is a hardtail!). The High Rollers however are very good on rough terrain and have excellent grip (though the full-sus will of course help here!). What I haven't tried yet is swapping the tyres over to see what difference they make. I would have thought on the bike you have the Explorers would be a better option, and I think cheaper, than the High Rollers.
