there was no reall need for them to touch the crank bolt. but at the same time it is not wrong to remove the crank arm to replace rings etc.
sorry to say in this case it is Evans that have F***ed up and they need to sort it.
PS it is a bolt not a nut.

It's down to Evans to PROVE they didn't cause the damage and if they can't they have to sort it as a matter of consumer rights

Evans are terrible at this sort of thing... Just the Other day my Mate took his bike to evans to fix the Front mech (which hadnt been working properly since he got the bike from them a few months ago), He came back with a œ40 bill for A chain change, and œ25 worth of Labour- Because they had put one of the rings on the wrong way round! (this caused chain wear). Why should he have to pay for their mistakes? and œ25 on labour for changing a chain, and turning a ring around! Cheeky B***ards

Complaint to their customer service dept, they'll call the branch, tell them they have to sort it. Job done

argued wit them till i was blue could have beaten them to death wit it and would rather pay some one else to do it than risk them ****s ****in some thin else up[}:)]

That was the store though. Call the customer service dept at head office and tell them politely what has happened and that the only solution is for them to replace the part or go through a small claims court. Then it actually would be down to them to prove they are innocent and would cost them a lot more than replacing the part

Yes call customer services....it's 100% the store's fault and you deserve reparations! Whoever at Evans told you it was halfords fault should be sacked.
BTW I think even the small claims court has a de minimis limit on smallness, and this may be beneath it (unless you can show further damages). But complaints to central Customer Services should sort it out.

Mmm.. that's quite an impresive injury you had there...0 -
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. You need tp know your rights and it is not always up to the company to prove they are not in the wrong.
Get writing a letter to Evans and if possible include photos and also be as precise as possible0 -
cheers fella, got on to the store today they asked me too bring the bike back to them and they would rectify the prob, so there not all stuck up pricks down there.
