Have you tried them both? The Aggressor for me on spec, but do try.

The aggressor for me as well, better upgrade potential and better out of the box as well. As they are both from Halfords you should be able to make a good comparison if you get to test them both.

GT Aggressor for me....
GT is the volvo of the bike world, strong, reliable, unlikely to go wrong and pretty bombproof.0 -

Get the GT! I bought that very one (well not that one) yesterday, made it this morning and found it pure quality. [:D]

Slight problem...the GT Agressor XC3, as with the other current GT's, are now obsolete from Halfords...i.e. they are not getting new stock now. You will be lucky to find one, if i'm honest, cos as you can see it is out of stock online.
I don't think there are any in my area now, so you may need to get a store to track one down nationwide for you, rather than buy online.
The vulcan, on the other hand isn't a bad bike, just the Sram gears fitted I personally hate. Plus, limit screws that screw into plastic...a receipe for overshifting!
What I could suggest, if you werent hung up on discs, are the older GT's which aren't as popular now for this reason. I find cable disc brakes to be very underpowered compaired to even decent v's, escpecially the tektro's fitted to the two bikes you have mentionted. Plus they're heavier. Infact, a recent review of œ400 bikes has a specialized with 9 out or 10, and it just has V's! Don't get me wrong, I have hydraulic discs, but unless this is the upgrade or price hike you are willing to make, i'd stick with v's.
The older Agressor 2 and 1's are actually well specced, bar the Disc Brakes (with Older Judy J3 forks, deore groupset and similar frames to current models). I think last years Agressor 2, which is red and white, is around your price range.

Other GT's XC's are avaialable on the Halfords website, its just the XC3 that is out of stock.

What I am saying is that they are all obsolete. Once they are gone they are gone, and the 20's are the fastest selling really.
If there are still some about, snap them up now, lol.
But my comments about older GT's still stand.

Indeed you won't go wrong with a GT, great frames right through their range, always good for upgrading on to

whats the story with GT and Halfords ? why are they getting no new stock .....0

Halfords will be releasing a new range soon i guess.
Tektro Cables are very good IF set up correctly and maintained. Also, the bike will be easily upgradable to hydros if need be.

Personally i would go for the GT on spec i am in a simular situation and the two bikes i am looking at are...
GIANT Yukon
http://www.tredz.co.uk/details.aspx?id=5504
Mongoose Tyax Elite
www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk
When i initially looked at the bikes in halfords i thought that they were good spec for the money but i think that there is better deals to be had on the net. Look on tredz and winstanleysbikes for good deals also wiggle.0 -
Hi.
I was lucky enough to get an Aggressor XC3 from a guy who bought it 2 months ago but never used it, and œ100 off the new price too
I have to say I'm thrilled with it. It's light, agile and fast, the brakes are good, although they could do with an upgrade at some point, but they're way better than the V brakes I was used to.
You should get one if you shop around a bit. I know our local Halfords (Newport) still has one on display.
Good luck.
