Oops! I negelected to write any thing down.
I'm having the same problems with the rear brake on a Kona Blast as I had with a fire mountain ( same brakes).
When the bike gets wet, the lever for the rear brake tends to stick and the cable sounds a bit gritty when the levers pulled.
Eventually I will upgrade to hydraulic when I can afford it.
Any idea whats going on??

Take the cable out of of it sleeve, clean it, try to clean the inside of the sleeve. Get an old wax candle and coat the cable with it by rubbing the candle all over it, thus creating a wax barrier that acts as a lube and as a protective barrier against water. Re-insert the cable.
Get some GT85 and lube up your lever after gining it a clean.
Clean any crap out of the caliper too, grease any springs and moving parts, avoiding the pads!
Half an hours cleaning that'll add life expectancy to your breaks and cable.

Cheers for the advice. I like the tip about the candle wax. I've never replaced a cable before. Any special tools required?

Allen keys and cable cutters! Specific cable cutters help get a smooth cut. Avoid usuing pliers.
