X Fusion 02RC rear shock

I'm considering buying a Specialised FSR - either the basic or the comp version.

Both have a "X Fusion 02RC" rear shock though, which is not a brand/type I'm familiar with.

As it's standard kit on a Specialised bike I assume that the shock is OK, but has anyone got any experience of this shock?

    Hi,

I've got that bike, 2006 model (comp) - good choice. I haven't had any problems with the rear shock; I can't really say how it compares with Fox models but I certainly don't have any complaints. Mine has rebound adjust and a lockout option.

The only problem I've had was when the bushings wore out (inevitable maintenance issue) - replacement parts are available from TF Tuning or BETD easily if your LBS doesn't have them. I don't think that the bushings wear out any more quickly than with more expensive models of shock though. Replacing the bushings is an easy job if you invest in the BETD tool; I don't see any way you could do it without the tool. You'll know the bushing needs replacement when you get a horrible rattling "loose" feeling at the back of the bike; it seems to be the Achille's heel of all full-sus bikes.

By the way, the basic model spec looks pretty good - it's about the same as my older comp. It'd be hard to justify the extra cash for the 2007 comp model apart from getting better brakes than the Hayes Soles on the basic model (I have those and the back has always been good but the front hopeless). And the comp frame is a nicer colour, I suppose.
