GPS for Mac?

I really like the idea of having a GPS unit suitable for biking and running. I would like to be able to plan routes on my computer and download them to the unit. I would like a map representation of the route on the unit but not if it bumps the cost up a lot.

My main worry is the compatibility with Macs (Intel) of the unit and mapping software. Garmin seem to be addressing this problem. Does anyone have any tips please?[:D]

Yep, thanks for the constructive feedback.
  • hi there, at least you have chosen a fine computer with a brilliant OS, i believe the Garmin software is compatible as I was looking at it myself as i also have an intel Mac.

    Get yourself either:

Bootcamp (http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/) or Parallels (http://www.parallels.com) for Mac OSX

This will allow you to run Windows (aswell as mac) on your intel mac. You'll need a copy of windows mind, either XP SP2 or Vista

Parallels runs in a window on top of you mac os, where as bootcamp requires a restart where you can choose which os (mac or windows) you want to load.

Performance in bootcamp is no different to a quality PC so you get the best of both worlds.

I have run both on my Macbook pro and use memory-map with my xda orbit phone.
    Works a treat.
    Good luck...
