cycle 2 work help needed

Hi

I got a voucher for œ700. I then decided I wanted the Specialized rockhopper comp disc at œ750.

I was informed that I could add teh extra œ50 with no hassle and get the rockhopper

Halfords have now turned round and said I can't add the extra. I'm scunnered as they say round these parts

Has anyone been able to add teh extra to get a bike through the cycle 2 work scheme?

If so can you let me know when please

I was originally going to get the GT Agrresor at œ699 but basically set my heart on the rockhopper. Anyone know any way round this?

Cheers,
Bryan

  • Customs&Excise have stopped Halfords letting people add extra to there LoC so i'm afraid the value of your Loc is what you are stuck with. Sorry.

I got a œ1000 voucher, but spent œ1500 on my bike. When I paid for my bike I handed over the voucher and paid œ500 in cash, no problems!!! It just means what ever you spend over your voucher value is not VAT free etc.

Sounds like Halfords are being very difficult to me as I had no problems paying the extra. I'd have a another go.
  • When did you get your bike DSA244 as i got mine in march and i had no chance of adding any extra cash for a better bike

I got mine 23/03/07 with no problems. I have heard one or two shops don't allow you to pay more which seems very odd, I used my voucher at Evans. Crap shop and very unhelpful staff, but hey I saved a bundle.

The customs and excise thng seems rather odd also, because if you pay extra on top of your voucher it is not excludeing any tax, therefore they do not lose out on VAT etc.

I also know people who got their bike after me without any problems of spending more.

    Nomadicbry,

Does your voucher stipulate yu must use Halfords?? some stipulate a certain shop and some don't, it depends who you work for.
  • Hi guys, well tried again and argued the point but Hlafords say they will under no circumstances allow extra payment to be made and I can only spend up to the value of the voucher. Just awhat i would expect from corporates but hey what to do so today i ordered my Gt Aggressor XCR (œ699) amazing spec though teh frame is probably not cutting edge. So pickj that up tomorrow and possibly down to glentress on Sunday So I'm like teh kiddie the night before xmas only not getting teh tyope of bike i asked santa for hahaha ...was that not a song a few years back.

Cheers for the help guys and if your company are thinking of setting up a scheme tell them to avoid Halfords at all costs

    Cheers,
    Bryan

I had the same problem but bullied halfords into it. Basically they think there is a tax issue, but this is a matter of opinion and many think they are wrong. I contacted the company that subcontract halfords to do the cycle to work scheme for my employer. They told halfords the score and I bought my 1500 quid bike through the cycle to work scheme with 1000 quid voucher.

They will cave if you can contact the right company who your employer uses. In my case it was 'Grass Roots'. www.grg.com - I emailed the guy whose name was associated with bike benefits etc and he called me back immediately and sorted it all out.

The real bummer is that I had to get the bike via leisurelakes via halfords as they can't supply spesh. Unfortunately the bike has arrived with paint damage and a front shock that is faulty. This is why people use LBSs...
