Wow how & where from ? - I've called about 35 stockests near me - nobody has one. -Falcon won't be sending any out for 3 weeks apparently
I've resorted to internet shopping & only got through to one place that has an 18"er
Any tips ?0 -
It'd be the Giant for me, better upgrade potential in the frame IMHO.

Crank is better -Truvativ Fire X 3.1
Not sure about those wheels..!0 -
The Quad brakes on the D'Back are pretty good (same as C.Wrath), deore gears (same as C.W.), Forks appear to be undamped, wheels are an unknown to me, it is a fairly similar spec to the C.Wrath, which does ride well (I have 2 friends with them), dunno about the D'Back, you'll have to let us know!
Have fun!

Yeah I cant really justify spending œ100 more just to have 2 free services from a local bike shop - my shed is closer much to home, and I don't need to make an appintment to get it into the workshop !
The shop has offered to "build it" for a tenner - does anybody know what sort of state these things are in when they come from the manufacturers ?
i.e. would it need gear cables cutting installing + the indexing set-up ?
Cheers

Should just need pedals and bars putting on, put together for a tenner, thats a rip off

The ones we used to get in boxed required a 'mini service', inc setting up gears and brakes, checking all bolts and truing wheels.
100 quid is a big difference, maybe too much, but one reason some internet shops are cheaper is less overheads and display space. The local shop lets you try them out in the flesh. Plus if it does go wrong, you don't have to pay postage to send it back.

Ta for the info supersonic. Yep. Deff. not just a bars & pedals job apc- that's how it would arrive to me after a tenners worth of work !
The place I'm dealing with operates a chain of 7 "Richardsons Cycles" shops apparently - And as this thing is a Raliegh, any local retailer can be used to effect a warrenty claim, according to Raliey when I spoke to them yesterday.
Sounds like they've been having a few of these XCM forks back in - the warrenty replacements dont have lock-out either..
Fingers crossed then !0 -
Surely a warranty replacement should be of equal or better spec's? If you do have a problem do not settle for anything less than what was on the bike originally.

did u order it from the pell and parker place?focus superbud0

If you bought the DB, good on you.
If you haven't, a Giant would always get my money, due to its general quality. I had a Claud Butler Rock (same frame as the Cape Wrath), and though it rode fine, I had problems with the paint quality and corrosion.
No such problems with my kinesis!
The suntour forks that came with that bike were also a bit, erm, well rubbish!
Take care with the handlebars and stem on the DB. I have seen the current ones, like DBX Sports, coming with 'painted' matt parts. You could scratch off the paint with a finger nail.

Yep ordered from Pell & Parker. Paying an extra for it to be built œ10 (just because they'll be much quicker than me at getting the indexing dialed in & spokes nipped up)
I did, however find a place that was just as cheap as P&P : http://www.ashcycles.com
I regret not giving them my business. The lady I spoke to had much more time to discuss everything - I went with P&P because the told me on thursday that the bike was in stock, which was not actually the case..
Looking forward to seeing the frame - looks like its got a bit of a curve in the toptube giving more standover room than the Giant XTC / Claude Butler Cape Wrath.
Anyway, it'll arrive tomorrow with a bit of luck, so I'll post some pics.
Thanks for your help everyone0
