New Chain Slipping

Hi Everyone
I've just fit a new shimano IG chain (replacing an old one of the same model) and the gear shifting is now very smooth but the chain is slipping. Should replacing the rear cassette solve the problem?
I've shortened the chain as per instructions in a workshop book.
