what wheels

I am thinking of getting some wheels ordered this weekend from Merlin and I have 2 options. My original choice was a pair with XT hubs and 717 Rims for œ120. I then I thought about the build time so I lloked at the sale wheels and found ......
PAIR XT DISC - DT RIMS & ROTORS
*XT Splined disc hubs
*Choice DT 4.2 (XC) or DT 5.1 (freeride) disc rims in black
*DT Black competition spokes
*Includes 2 XT 160mm rotors
*Wheels can be used with XT, LX and Deore 535 brakes.
There is another option which is the same as above but has 6 bolt as opposed to splined and without the rotors. The splined wheels are œ130 and the 6 bolt œ125.
Is it worth waiting out the build time for my original choice or do the other option seem good? I have never heard of DT [:I]
Thanks[:D]

DT make excellent rims, favoured by many on here. I have no preference: both are great.
The 4.2 is marginally wider and lighter than the 717. The spokes are not much different to standard ACI double butted (slightly wider in the middle at 1.8mm compared to 1.7mm). Can always sell the rotors!

I like your thinking! Well, you've just sold them to me. Write to Merlin for some commission [;)]

Just another quick question, with my new wheels [:D] being splined does this just affect the rotors when it comes to brakes? What I mean is could I just buy a standard set of brakes with the 6 bolt fitting and use the rotors I get with the wheels and sell the 6 bolt rotors?? As long as they're the same size rotor of course [;)]
There is a 6 bolt onlt F & R XT set on CRC which means I could save a few bob when it comes to buying the brakes.
Thanks

Splined is Shimanos own creation, so will not find many other hubs or rotors with them. But its so simple and secure. More 6 bolt products about though.
Some rotors are different thicknesses, but generally its the width thats the important factor, and in some cases depth too.

Cheers SS, might just get the splined set then. I notice they come as either IS or PM. With my forks being IS is this the way to go? Or is there an advantage to using a PM adapter?

There is an advantage to the PM adaptor IMHO, as is easier to set up and no shims required.

I will go with that then. I currently use a PM adapter and know how to set them etc. so probably the best idea anyway. Cheers

Merlins sale wheels are still made to order so you'll have the same wait, well mine were anyway.

As a bit of an aside, from an engineering point of view, IS forks/frames and post mount calipers are the best combo because the threads for both sets of bolts are in the easily (cheaply) replaceable adapter if one strips.
Conversly, post mount forks have the threads in the expensive fork, whilst IS calipers have them in the caliper body.
