General purpose lubricant

Hi all
I have had a general look around the site for any information regarding "General purpose lubricant" but can not find any thing on this subject.
We can all go into our nearest Cycle Store and pick up a rather small can of 3 in 1 or similar but where can one buy a larger quantity of what is general called "Light Machine Oil" there is not only the jolly old Bike to look after but all sorts of uses around the house requiring the occasional oil. Any suggestions most welcome.
Thanks
Keith

Halfords teflon oil is very good, easy to get and cheap. Don't use 3 in 1 on a bike.

Its not entirely mineral based, attracts dirts and doesnt have the better properties of teflon oils. It can thicken.

Dripping is good, but you have to clean the chain with crusty bread.
