Could this be an allergic reaction?

Does anyone else suffer from this after eating tomatoes?
I get blood blisters coming up instantly in my mouth and on my tongue. Doesn't always happen, but is always when eating tomatoes. They are really horrible, sometimes huge and I have to burst them then they bleed like mad. Really weird and quite sore as they then turn into ulcers.[:(]
Any medical genius know why?

Ewwww!
Anyways, i know that some people who have hayfever can then in turn develop oral allergies to certain fruits/vegetables (an allergy to grass pollen usually leads to oral reactions against tomatoes). But this sounds more serious than the reactions you would get from that occurring. Weird.

Go see your GP and ask them about it, they may be able to do something about it. Or at least confirm you are allergic.
Anyways, it could be worse.

That explains why you were keen on a Chinese when Mark wanted to go for an Italian.
Avoidance is the best thing for allergies and that sounds allergic to me. So KEEP AWAY FROM TOMATOES!!! However, you could just try taking antihistamines regularly and see if it sorts things out. Or switch to Heinz Tomato soup as it's doubtful that there is anything vaguely tomato based in that.
I'd certainly suggest seeing your GP. You really should look after your health or it'll ketchup with you one day (I'll get my coat).

Hmmmm...
When you think about it tomatoes are in SOO many things though. It only seems to be fresh tomatoes I think. Had one at lunch time and got a huge blister under my tongue.[V]
I thought maybe it could be a chemical thing. It wasn't organic.
Will see GP though. Thanks for opinions.[:)]

I used to have a bit of reaction to apples and bananas, where my lips and gums would swell. No blisters though.
Nowadays I am just allergic to midge bites. My legs are a mess with all the scratching!

Poor you! Your lip was quite alarming on Saturday. I just got lots of red dots, then they went away, they didn't itch at all. Maybe you just taste nice and they took bigger bites out of you!![;)]

Nick - I've just ordered a batch of Avon Skin So Soft in anticipation of next week's excursion to the West Highlands being a trip into midge central. I'll let you know how well it works, although if the reports are anything to go by then it should be pretty good.

Jed, its the dry oil body spray you want. If you look on the Avon site, look at the best sellers, it'll be no 1. Think its on sale just now too IIRC.

Got back from a pottle last night to find my legs all red and puffed up and blotchy and itchy as hell!! I must be allergic to nettles or pesticides or something else I'd brushed up against on the way home (hope it's not the bf!!).

Words are powerful things Cazz, in searching for the truth behind your rash, look to you suspicions, therein lies the truth.
Nettles Pesticides, as you can see, an anagram of 'Testicles Die Spent' perhaps it is too muchb rubbing of the bf

hi Saz,
A friend of mine had a similar thing but with bannans, and its possible (I'm not a doctor!!!) your suffering from the same thing, namly the high potasium content.
I checked out this site http://www.davita.com/diet-and-nutritio ... sics/a/479, and it turns out tomatoes have high levels of potassium.
Best to goto the docs and have a blood test I think.
Cheers, Craig.0 -
