You happy with those brakes Carrie? Sorry they've still got some Sunderland mud on them.

No clue, that's Gordon's domain. He's supplying the cassette and crankset and I've just got to buy a 9 speed chain.

Oxberry they're fantastic thanks SOOO much for letting him have them for that price! We're gonna have a practice ride on Saturday night/Sunday so I can get used to the hydros and not fly over the bars at the slightest bite [:D]

Looking good! Should drop a pound or too overall too I would have thought. I wouldn't go for the HT2 crank with the muddy stuff you lot ride in - I'll give the bearings 3 months. LX Octalink only 35 quid still at CRC.

I'm not getting a new crank yet!!! Gordon's got a Hone set he's lending me for now, unless that Truvativ set I got is 9 speed compatible...

Paul, I know the feeling!
Those tektros are good for cables, when on my ruckus it was one finger stopping. But they gunk up quick.
The crank is 9spd compatible! PC971 chain would be my choice, like the one I got on ebay for 12 quid.

Sonic, those cable discs have needed constant adjustment though and it gets tiresome having to fiddle with them before/during/after most rides [V]

I had Tektro IO's on my Carrera, the Hope mini mono's are a different world from them. Not only are they way more powerful, the feel you get through the lever is a lot better too. But then again 17 stone takes some stopping.
Now roadie brakes, in the wet on saturday coming down a 25% incline, that was scary.

Odd. Thats OTT even for cables! Bit of bad luck I reckon. Hydros are more maintenance free, but they have to be spot on to start or the rubbing starts... remember no pad adjustment on these.

The rubbing you get now and then is more annoying than anything else. Plus I reckon that although you have to shim hopes, rather than slide them on mount, which is a faff on, once they're in place, they're spot on.
Each to their own I suppose. You should buy some and try them, you may be suprised.

Self adjusting though aren't they?
Did you ever run hydros on any of your bikes (I genuinely can't remember [:P])?

Yeah, if they were hitting the rotor enough to act as a brake, then the rotor would be pushing the pistons back into the caliper. Usually braking hard sorts it all out anyhow.

Of course what was the first thing I went to do when I got them out of the bag last night... Pump the lever to see what they felt like... DOH!! Lol, not used to all this fancy kit on my bike you see [:D]

Stuff TyMBR In my dreams Myspace My flickr photos0 -
Nope, but tested dozens of pairs, and rode with a Hope C2 for a while on a borrowed bike. No doubt are sharper than most cables, and more efficient, but not always needed for all riding. My Hayes rear cable brake is sharper than many hydros I have ridden! Pity about the front... Its all about set up sometimes. Self adjusting refers to the pads retracting evenly, so the seals and pistons need to be kept lubed. This is the cause of most rubbing problems. You will also have reach adjust. With bit of luck, and correctly bled you shouldn't have to touch them for months!

Lol, pistons now lying on the living room floor then?
They're quite light as well, I forgot how light they were to be honest, and you'll have noticed the 180 rotor for the front.

180? Get a parachute caz!!! ;-)
Its the deforming seals that cause the pistons to retract... unless you pump them too far out hehe!

All I am saying is that set up is key - and you two should be good at that! Most common prob in workshop forum is hydro discs... more through poor set up I guess than inherant probs with them.
