If anyones interested, got some photos of my week in Austria. Weather turned out much better then feared and had great time, and still aching and have numerous bruises.

that whole trail was a killer..1hr it took us, never sweated so much from concentration, roots and slate rocks galore and some swtich backs so tight you'd have issues on a unicycle...but great fun and all on a hardtail, didn't get the chance to do it again on a full sus as didn't have enough time after..
plus there was a snake on the trail, which nearly got the steve irwin treatment till i realised it may be more dangerous then the ones in the UK!!

was meant to add this earlier but forgot!
Anyway had a chance to ride a number of bikes over the week, so I thought I'd add some comments on each one.
Spesh Hardrock Pro 06 - Poor fork, not very interesting to ride, only rode it on cycleway and a tiny bit on easy xc trail, but had no desire to take it out proper.
Spesh Stumpjumper (not sure which model name) - Light. Avid 7 brakes very poor, cooked themselves very quickly; granted 185mm rotors with 16 stone down the alps isn't ideal, but the haynes 9 on the dawg with same size rotors coped some much better(even the soles faded less!) the brain fade struck me as useless gimmick, the 32 talas didn't feel right either and the lock out lever moves while riding. Maybe if I owned the bike and had time to play with the adjustments and get it to how I wanted then it may be great, but I'll never buy it as I can't be arsed with that. Comfy saddle. beautiful shifting.
Kona Dawg delux - Heavy, good brakes, ideal hire bike but for 200 quid more then my meta it just doesn't make purchase sense. Fun ride as long as its gravity powered.
Kona Hoss - Heavy (a kona theme) brakes not bad even though they are soles, absolutley atrocious fork. The 22" frame was actually a good size but kinda felt a bit suspect feeling so high off the ground when the goiing gets tough. But it was actually great from riding some serious stuff on a hardtail. the high BB on both the HOss and Dawg are great, never bashed a pedal which is great as you don't have to worry about that like you do on my Meta.
also both the Maxxis Ignitor and High roller tyres fitted to the Konas respectively are great, with the 2.35 High rollers on the Hoss dealing well with everything

Beeeee-autiful! Alps in the summer are my idea of paradise...
Been to Austria loads of times, it's close to me. Even my bike was born there! [:D]
P.s. did you steal my fork there? [:D]
Also, what are those, 661 Race Lite pads? I have their bigger brothers, Race...
Great pics! Btw I like to take pics of TV towers too [:D]

Yeah the race lites, prefer them to the race as they don't have the knee sock thing, though could do with being longer, and the knees not articulated as much.
you can always tell the quality of a mountain if its got a tv tower hehe

I'll put on a photo of our tower next time! Those antenna arrays are mint[:D]
P.s. how do you find the pads? Do you wear them all the time?
I climb with my shins on the top tube, and elbows in the backpack. I put them on for the descent. They seem comfortable enough to wear almost all the time, even keep you warm, but it's hot now... Gotta wait for autumn to try riding with them all the time. Would be good, you never know when you might fall. I even thought of wearing them under the jacket and cargo pants in winter... but that'll have to wait a little! [:)]

depends where I'm riding, but generally will have the shins on all the time as i have a habit of mullering my very sharp v12 pins into my shins. Maybe inthe height of summer..when it returns I may take them off, my pack has handy slings to hook em up to. As for winter, I always where shorts and SSleeve tops all year round so in winter then give a bit of weather protection
