I am going to go foursome clip less pedals for off road stuff and at the movement I am looking at either the Shimano M424 SPD pedals at œ30http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=4000000481Or the Shimano DX M647 Pedals at œ50http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360014723. I really can't to decide. Which ones would you recommend taking the price into consideration?
Thanks

I've had no problems with my 424s so far, stable, easy to clip in and out. The 647s have a metal cage around them rather than resin so will be tougher, but if money is an issue I don't think you can go wrong with the 424s

I have the DX M647's. Soooper pedals.
They don't have a metal cage, that's the 545's. The 647's have a resin cage, and a better (more open) SPD mechanism than the 545's, so will shed mud better.
Plus they are a fiver cheaper (œ44.99) from Leisure Lakes. [;)]

Also, be wary of some of the SPD shoes with the platformed pedals as the platform can make it harder to clip in.
I originally bought some Adidas El Moro's to go with my 647's, but the grip on the soles was resting on the cage and not allowing you to clip in without considerable effort, which also left you with no float, and hard to release from.
Ditched those for some Shimano MP66B DX shoes, and they are b-e-a-utiful. A match made in heaven! [:D]

Yeah, alright mate. I haven't done Epping yet with them, just some local road-work, but I like them!!
The shoes are great, but I had to get a size bigger than I usually am as they were too cosy in the toes. Went for a ten and they were bang on the money.
I'll definately be running clipless on my next bike too, as i'll need the extra pull!! [;)]

I got my bike with Clipless pedals and rode it for the first time on saturday afternoon to adjust the clip mechanisn, many a comedy moment to be had having NEVER used the SPD system before. Much leaning to the side and grabiing a fence to be had.... [:D]0

my thoughts, what is your riding? basically XC, no not the racing but not shore or DH, just going out for some climbs and some downs. if it is then get some spuds WITHOUT the platforms and get some shoes with STIFF soles. a not cliped in shoe on a platform spd pedal has less grip that on an uncaged pedal. it is also easier to clip into the uncaged. i also founs that the cage does not actually give the foot any suport, so why have it? the pedals with a flat one side and an spd the other, you will hate them in minutes of getting of road as you will never get the spd side when you want it. if you want a flat for town use a bit of checkerplate and a spare cleat and there you are.
shoes i also found these recreational lesure cycling shoes to be uncomfortable due to too much flex.
for shore and DH a pair of grippy shoes and a good set of flats.
i used to be clipped in for DH but 5:10's and flats. my old spds for XC. sorted.
