How can I improve?

Hello guys,
I have been using my carerra fury to bike into work for the last four months or so now. It is a 10 mile trip each way and the route is partially mud track, partially cycle route with some slight inclines. I am currently doing the journey in 36.5 minutes which I know is not great. Im averaging about 16 mph. How can I improve on this time? I know that with time I will develop my fitness but is there any training that i can do to shave some more time off? I have already taken ten minutes off. I am aiming at 30 minutes for the journey, 20mph average? can this be acchieved on a mtb without slick tyres??? shall i get some>? will this give me no grip? is there anything i can do???
thanks.

You'll need to be very fit to average 20mph off-road. But luckily cycling 10miles off-road each day is going to get you very fit.
I'm not sure about using a slick tyre in the mud, you'll have virtually no grip at all. However, maybe you could use a semi-slick tyre.0 -
