Front crank / sprocket / pedals!

Hi there advise required. I went out for a brief ride this afternoon and only got about 2 miles before I was pedaling in fresh air bike going no where. The pedals turn but the sprockets on the front are going no where. The main shaft crank is spining but where the sprockets meet the main shaft it's just spining. Do I need a new crank set! The bike has done alot of hard miles?

    by the sound of it you need a new crank set, post some pics up if possible so we can actually see what you have managed to do,

    The bike and crank look in good order so dont think pic will help. If I pedal lightly it will turn back wheel.
