Does such a camera exist?
Hi all,
Looking to get a new camera as some random pratt at school broke my Fujifilm Finepix Z1... [:(!]
Anyway, does a camera with the following features exist?
Can take standard photos (duh!)
Can take movie with sound, at least 640 x 480.
Can adjust the shutter speed (to get pan shots)
Can get the subject in focus, and the background out of
Changeable lenses
Smaller/lighter than a DSLR, but not by much
Doesnt cost a fortune
Does it exist?
Ta, Duane [:)]

Hmm, I'm by no means an expert, but I don't think that even prosumer cameras have changeable lenses. Maybe your best bet would be a cheap n small DSLR?
PS. I will be deleting my comments if proved wrong on this one!

Surely not with changeable lenses?
Duane - I know you can change the lenses on SLRs, but prosumer cameras are not SLRs necessarily. I probably should have been more specific!

try this...
http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_Camera/PowerShot/PowerShot_S3_IS/index.asp?ComponentID=344365&SourcePageID=384853#1
It has all you want bar the 'change lenses'. It's pretty compact even with the 12x optical zoom, has stereo sound recording, can do 60 frames per sec on 320x240 res. Has a dedicated movie button to switch instantly between modes and you can take stills instantly whilst in movie mode. Very versatile little number and cost œ245 six months ago when i purchased mine.[:)]Iron Horse Azure Expert

I'm not going to technically prove you wrong, but you can get adaptor for some compacts, certainly for the Nikon Coolpix series as demonstrated here. If you're wanting to change lenses then you really are best with a SLR.

Hm, sounds like a small DSLR is what you really want if lens changeability is a requirement.
What different lenses are you looking for and why? Having a small camera but having to carry 2 lenses will negate the size issue.
With regards being able to control shutter speed and aperture (this will give you the depth of field (or lack of) you want for out of focus elements) most half decent compacts will allow you an aperture and shutter priority mode giving you the control/effects you want.
Remember, highlighting a subject by making the background out of focus requires a nice big aperture and some focal length and can be hard to do with some of the wider angled lenses you get on compacts.

OK, cancel of the interchangeable lenses.
But how about sequence shots? Can compacts take rapid shots?

i have a sony cybershot dsc t50, it has sequence, between one every 30th of a second up to half a second (i think) i throw discus sometimes, so i use that to take step by step photos of my technique.
The video is 640 x 480, and is very good quality (even on the folks' 32" hi def lcd.
It has 7.2 mega pixels, which may not be the biggest number on the market, but produces very good pictures. No adjustable shutter speed though, very few have, i had an old cybershot about 5 yrs ago that did, but nothing since then....
hope that helps

Try a canon 4XX series camera, you can't change the lense but the rest is what you want. Totally waterproof covers cost about œ80 on top of the camera price of œ100.
Mine survived jumping from 20ft sand dunes at Holkham beach last week, and stacking it into off a 12ft gravel bed at Cley, they can take the rough stuff no probs.
This is aswell as an 80ft scree run into a river at the lake district last year.
Who says you're too old to be mad at 33?
New geared inbred frame is here, an Nzyme to churn up the mud in winter and a single speed Schwinn Frontier which will be sold or disolvedVisit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

Sony V3. not a current model. I bought mine new 2 years ago (œ450) and it's flippin great. I saw one in a cmera shop window for œ179 second hand and it looked brand new. Takes great video with good sound, the only trouble is you cant zoom while taking video but you can zoom in before you press record.

have a look at the Canon A710IS, only œ200, smaller than an SLR but brilliant picture quality and you can also do everything manually i.e focus etc. I bought one a month ago.
