Hi everyone, i'm new here & looking for a bit of help please[:)]
I'm looking to upgrade from my 2005 Scott G-Zero FX which has served me well.
Do i buy a new 2005/06 bike and enjoy the heavy discounts available or opt for an '08 model?
saving œ500 on something like this must be a good thing...

Is a year or two really gonna make a massive difference in the technology dept. There are some great deals at places like Paulscycles so do i save or spend?Have any of you bought an 'older'
bike and regretted it?
Thanks an advance[:D]

You will only find deals like that in uncommon sizes. Like the one you have shown is a Small and pricey and us girls who normally go for the small mens if we have long arms won't pay that kind of cash cos there is not enought left for the make up!!!!
Seriously, I have been wondering the same thing for a while and like you have done loads of cycle shop watching and even e-bay and have come to the conclusion that if I am going to spend that much on a bike its got to be right and got to be new. You wont be happy with something that you will want to change in 4 months!

hi globalfish
why replace the whole bike? upgrade the parts that are needed.
new wheels ?
new rear mech cassette rings and chain.?
scott bikes are awesome ..how is the frame? is it o.k? forks?
its fun to replace parts. and you can save loads of money and weight too!!
sorry if this is not what you want to do. but...
i started replacing parts by myself a couple o years back and im so glad i did
i dont have to rely on bike shops ...middle men...im free to do it myself
its really easy too!! honest im naf with mechanical stuff but after a couple of days searching the net and emailing, i was able to build my bike up.
just a thought.

I see where you're coming from freqy. I have already replaced the drivetrain components myself, and fitted a set of Juicy 7's but am reluctant to spend more on this bike now.
I agree with you that Scott bikes are very good - i picked mine up for just œ400 with only 27km on the clock and a full set of Cateye lights/wireless speedo. The frame is great but i feel if i upgrade components then i'll end up with a 'low-end' frame and great forks, drivetrain etc. I'm pretty fussy and would probably overspend if i made a project out of it. In fact i know i'd overspend if it was my project bike[:D]
Marie, the Scott actually came from e-bay and i bought a bike rack from my local paper for a tenner on the way to pick it up! Was one of the best purchases i've made. I know new is nice but it'll still get the same abuse through the winter and the '08 paint will chip the same as the '06 paint. I'd be happy riding a new '06 Trek Remedy 66 (for example)knowing i'm riding a œ2600 bike that only cost me œ1399. I wouldn't stretch to a œ2500+ budget. And it's in my size at Paulscycles.
But the '08 Carbon Rush is sooo damn sexy...[:D]Iron Horse Azure Expert

That GT is a phenomenal bike! If you can test one I highly recommend it.

Well folks, I've just purchased a 2007 Giant Trance 3. Just been out for a quick ride (16 mile mixed surfaces) and impressed with the lack of pedal bob compared to my old Scott. All Giant Trance models share the same frame so this'll be my new bike for the next year +. Seems quick and comfy (as per a friends Trance 4 which impressed me)
œ700=job done. Tyres are a bit naff but there's still lotsa money in the bank for new 'uns[:D]
Will keep Scott for more muddy times Cheers to all for yr comments/advice.Iron Horse Azure Expert
