Hey fellow MTB'ers...

I'm fairly new to MTB'ing but enjoying it to the max, I've done Gisburn & some routes in the Lakes, also both red & black runs in Llandegla.

I'm going to do the Marin Trail this weekend (Sat), not sure what to expect though, have you got any pointers/suggestions for a beginner ?

thanks
RD

Long dull climb on fire road at the beginning- but thats prob the worst it gets (climb wise)
Rocky in places and may well be a bit slippy with all the rain.
    We're there tonight.....

    Copy and paste from

    MAINTENANCE.

A few sections are beginning to show signs of wear, consequently some much needed maintenance will be taking place within June/July.

Please adhere to all warning signs and be patient with the contractors doing the work. Sure you'll enjoy the finished products!

    "HIT THE TRAIL"

We've noticed over the past few months that numbers riding the Marin have begun to decline, presumably due to Penmachno and Llandegla coming on line.Seems a real shame as the marin is a fabulous trail with some stunning scenery.

So do us a favour and get back out there! Pop into the local villages for a bite to eat, cuppa and the odd pint or two (not recommended whilst riding!) and enjoy exactly what Gwydyr and the Marin have to offer.

Best wishes to all of yiz............:-)

Well, had a good ride last night at the Marin, bit sketchy in places with all the rain! Not too quick either for me, as I'm suffering with bruised ribs at the mo'! Lovely fish and chips at the chippy next to the bridge in Betws!

Well I did it... ! x 4 Falls & 1 lost mobile, only a few bumps & bruises so nothing serious but well cheesed off with loosing my mobile as I like to take some pics of all the runs i go on...

The climbs weren't that bad & was looking forward to the downhills at the end but having come off FOUR times prior to that i didn't go as fast as I think i could of ! so think when the weathers better ie not as wet or slippy I'll give it another go.

Had a good day & enjoyed it, found it a little harder than Llandegla though ! or do you think that was just the conditions ? ...gotta get me some better tyres !

Don't know about being harder than Llandegla, more like different. But in a good way!
I prefer a more natural feel to trails, rather than all the jumps and berms at Llandegla.
Have you been to Penmachno just down the road?

Prob. my fave trail at the moment.....

Hey ratty... yep agree with you, think they are just different but think I like the jumps & berms more and cant wait to try it a second time, as my confidence is gaining I should really enjoy it as I know what coming ! ...if you know what I mean,

Only been MTB'ing properly for approx 3 months so still trying diff places, havn't been to Penmachno so will have to put that on my list, is it all well sign posted like Marin or would you need to look up a route on the internet ? ... is it approx the same distance as Marin as I dont mind going a little further ?

    Thanks

Yep, proper signposted route, easy to follow!! But some of the best singletrack I've been on. It keeps encouraging you to go faster and faster. But it can bite as my ribs will testify! Dead easy to find as well.

Go straight past Betws Y Coed, you will come to a sign 'Penmachno' turn right (next to a pink cafe) follow down to Penmachno village, cross the bridge and stick on the main road thro' the village. It turns left in front of a pub - The feathers, eagle? cant remember sorry! Take 2nd turn on right that leads you to a couple (three?) layby's for parking in.
    Head up for the trail!

    Cheers...

Will give it a blast one weekend then and hopefully keep upright !
I guess the more familier you get with a particular run then the faster you can take it ! so prob take it easy the first time round !!!
