Commencal, turner or cove?

After much deliberation, consideration and persuasion from other riders, iv decided to spend my money and buy a new bike, will build myself though. (before go into huge amounts of debts a uni.) I will be mostly using it up north in the south lakes and in Scotland, doing XC and Trail riding, with some more adventurous stuff in between.
To save money though i will be buying mainly off EBay and second hand, but the best conditioned stuff I can find.
First is first, frames, as stated before, i would like to buy second hand or 06 versions. After falling in love with Commencals and thinking i wanted one; I'm now not so sure. but am sure i would like one of the following:

Commencal meta 5.5.1/2 06 or 07

turner 5 spot ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Turner-Mountain-B ... dZViewItem self explanatory.)

Cove hustler (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cove-Hustler-Full ... dZViewItem which is size 17.5 with a reserve of œ450)
(or off of EBay or reduced frame sale, any year.) the links are just examples, will wait till nearer the end date to see their going prices before I commit.
So basically something with 5 inches of rear travel and between 100 and 140mm front. I like the look of them all, and am really not sure.
Sizing is another thing; as mentioned before im 6 foot 4, Im pretty sure I need XL Commencal and I think Turner, but not sure about Cove, opinions from those that have any of these bikes would be appreciated.
Then comes the matter of selling my current bikes, it's a Specialized 2004 epic, with XTR group set pretty much, fox front and rear forks, XTR discs, Thompson elite seat post, Mavic rims, in pretty good nick, not abused. What sort of money should I be looking for, and any offers?
Help gratefully appreciated, as are links to useful websites.
Cheers

forget about the cove nowhere near big enough im 6ft and the 17.5" felt too small

I have a large '06 turner 5 spot and i'm 6'1" and it fits me fine, so an XL would be great for someone who is 6'4".
I love my Turner and can recommend it, the back end is silky smooth and it handles really well. The attention to detail on the frame is really nice, very good welding and the paint job seems to be lasting very well. Go on, get it, you know you want to....
Why not use the parts from your epic to build-up the new bike? You will get more value by re-using them than you will from selling a complete bike.

The Cove is a great bike but as said above, it will be way too small for you. I ride a 17.5 inch Hustler and I'm only 5'10".
Personally, I'd be looking at the Commencal. They're getting some great reviews at the moment and they seem great value for money.

Seconded, I am 6ft 3, and I had a cove stiffee and have a cove handjob, and they are both 19 inch, I could of easily gone for the 21 inch but i prefer a small frame. Saying that tho my gspot is a 17.5 inch, but it is a fr rig so meant to be smaller.

I have a Large Meta 5.5.1 and am 5'11" but with 33" inside leg. You would certainly need an XL I think.0

went to my LBS this morning furthering my confusion over what i want. but now im thinking, with the '08' range coming out in early september, ill wait for this and grab a bargain '07' commencal meta 5.5 VIP and building it up with my XTR stuff (cheers for the idea seagull) from from my epic as its so damn expensive this year. will have to buy some new fox forks but no doubt EBay will come in hand there, and sell my epic and forks etc.
This is unless i find a cheap '07' hustler or 5 spot...god knows what ill do then...0 -
Well built up with identical components (the test they did in MBR a few months back) the cove came out on top, but as said above you'll need a 19" one probably.

ridewhenever - interesting...now, again, im not sure....
Gibby - no my LBS is leisure lakes (keswick or ambleside when i live at my second house in the lakes though), whom said they'd see abut getting meta 5.5 vip in, otherwise, theres always the internet.
are there any cove size guides on the internet? my epic is 18", and would consider going larger...0 -
i would say you are looking at least at 19 inch with cove, i though your epic would be a bit bigger for a person of your size... i am 5 foot 7 and find my 18inch GT too small (although some may say its too big).

I don't mean to be a funny, but i think you may struggle to get hold of an 07 VIP. They are very scarce now.If you can get one now do so. œ850 for a frame is still great value with the RP23 shock too..Good luck and i hope you get one.Me http://www.flickr.com/photos/8779009@N03/622132744/

Iv found two sites that have the Commencal meat 5.5 VIP frame for œ850, but im tempted to wait till the '08' range comes out in next month or two and see if my LBS or the internet have the '07' one with a discount.
every penny counts....0 -
Are you sure they are in stock?
The bike shop i got mine from has many people asking for them so you might find them gone soon if they are.How many times have i thought "I'll wait for a bit and sit it out" to find stuff gone.People are very resourceful especially with the net at thier disposal and it doesnt take long for them to sniff things out..Good luck otherwise

yeah i see your point, they are in stock in both shops, and being so tall, its often XL frames that are left over for sales (along with the smalls). even if i do miss out on a cheap '07', surely the new '08' edition will be of a very similar price?0
-
Yeah its a good price for a frame either way. I did read somewhere there may be a price rise...Might be wrong but it may be in WMTB.
Demand may force a rise along with the great reviews its getting. WMTB are just about to review the 5.5 in the near future with Doddy taking delivery of one recently..

Darn it...
this is getting tougher, going to lakes, scotland and wales in the simmer, and buying the frame now for œ850 would ensure i could build it up now ready for the summer. But waiting could save me some money, or get the '08' frame instead, but it could cost more....0 -
