MX Pro or RS Tora the two best at this price point. Which Tyax, and whats up with the existing fork?

I've got the Comp. I wanted better forks than that were on the Elite and Comp so I went with the Comp as its cheaper (and the colour is better suited - not that its important).
What I want that my current forks cannot give is less weight, lockout, damping and just a basic upgrade on things like travel and adjustability. I don't necessarily need ALL of these things (I don't have a spare œ500!) but just wanted to have a nosey at what is out there.0 -
I like your thinking, I often go along similar lines with new bikes.
Unfortunately at the budget end of the scale features add weight. The RS Tora is feature packed, but is probably heavier than what you have already. MX Pro a litle lighter, and has rebound damping, but no lockout or travel adjust.

Would this be the Tora 302 U-Turn that you refer to?
I think the Tora is actually slightly lighter than my current forks, but only by a couple of ounces. I dont know how much the 4lb difference on the MX Pro will feel, maybe not much.
Does the Tora sound the better option?
At what point does the adding of features not increase the weight so much, what I mean is, after the Tora what is the next league up?0 -
Recon up from Tora, then Reba/Revelation
MX Pro is 4.6lbs
Tora 302 U turn is 5.3lbs
Tora 318 air is 4.5lbs/ uturn 4.9lbs
Tora 302 2006 air is 4.4lbs
Recon 327 air 4lbs
Off the top of my head! It up to you to make that trade off between weight and features. (and price)

I had the Tora 302 '06 air on order from Evans' but got let down. They have my money too, tossers.
It looks like a straight fight between the MX Pro and the Tora 302 U-Turn, mainly because of the cash.
After checking the MX Pro the weight is 4.9 so would the four ounce difference be big enough to have forks without lockout and travel adjust? I would say not, but that doesnt mean much as iam still learning.0 -
I think you will notice the general inprovement in the amount of control a good fork will give you over the weight saving.
A well damped fork gives you so much more cotrol,it allows you to ride a lot harder.
At this price,I wouldn`t worry too much about weight.

I had same dilemma and plumped for the MX Pro's. Have to say more than impressed and v pleased with decision. I'm sure Tora's are fine too, but as I wasn't that bothered by lock out MX Pro was my choice.

Obviously a bit of a risk but lightly used secondhand forks could be a good option. Something like this could be good if the bidding doesn't get silly.

Thanks for that.
I'll keep my eye on second hand forks, how many miles is too much?0 -
Hard to say. Its a risk, and don't get any warranty, but certainly an option.
