avid troubles

Ive got a newish mtb with a fine set of avid juicy 3 discs, 185 up front and 160 behind, trouble is, of late they have been squeeking and squarking something rotten after they warm up. Ive taken them apart and cleaned with degreaser and tried acetone, but to no effect. What to do?

The Juicies are a bit prone to vibes and squeeking, sadly. You can try the alignment of the caliper and ensure its all clean, then beast the life out of them down a big hill.
We run a few sets on our demos, they are all noisy but they are cracking brakes when they are bedded in-you just have to accept it, like a built in "I'm coming" device (well, you know what I mean!!!

avid 5 better are they? can you chop and change, as in put avid 5 calipers on 3 discs and levers. Mind you if bedding in is the trouble do i just put up with it for a fortnight and then it will go away; im new to this, never had discs before, in my mind i cant see how theyre supposed to work, metal on metal doesnt add up to me, surely if the pads were rubber theyd be better?

Metal to metal???? There is supposed to be pad material bonded to the backing plate of the pad........

Got the same problem with the Avid 7's on my new Stumpjumper.

Can't believe this is normal!

They are still bedding in so will give them the benefit of the doubt, but in the damp air last night they were squarking terribly, like the cheapo tektro mechanicals on my Chucker [:0]

There must be a cure, how about some Copperslip on the backs of the pads?
