Alternative to Fire XC Pro's
I like the Fire's which I have been using since the trails started drying out. I think they are 85% 'there' as being the ideal tyre (for me)
They fall down on root grip and mud clearance though
So, I am looking at alternatives for trail and XC, mainly hardpack, loose-over, light mud - tearing down the descents as fast as... (all off-road)
Cinders still have the mud clearance problem
Nobby Nics 2.25's (will probably come up same width as the Fires) are looking favourite so far
Any thoughts appreciated

I find the Cinders mud-clearance is in a completely different league to the Fire. The more blocky tread pattern doesn't trap the mud in the way the Fire does, and I think they're a great all-round tyre, superior to the Fire in all ways but longevity.0

I have Cinders and find the mud clearance a problem, but that's the only problem on an otherwise perfect tyre IMO.

Nobby Nics are useless if you ride a lot, they wear out too quickly. The main problem is that the outer knob wear at teh point which the knob attaches to the tyre, this gives unpredictable handling. I trashed mine in a week.

Decided on Albert's in the finish [:)]
Have you much experience of them? General web consensus sounds top...

I'm currently running Nics front and rear and have almost trashed the rear in only a handful of rides. The side knobs are almost detached. The front seems fine though.
I'd definitely return to my prev faves - Cinders - despite them having slightly more drag. I think I'll give either Enduro 2.3s or Rampages a go next.

I am riding a little bit more aggressively than on my cr@ppy, divey, spiking old Foxes. But trashing side knobs isn't a new thing for me - look

Good move. Stu555 has them on his heckler and loves them. Quite a few of the jocks I ride with use Pikes and rate them highly, certainly above Foxes. I'm glad that SRAMs takeover has worked for the better.
Heck, I'd have bought a set if they weren't a bit small and inadequate for my new build project [;)]

Got the new Albert's today, so went out in what can only be described as 'Post-Revealtions' (apocalyptic deluge last night) in the Wyre Forest - so it was a gamut of conditions
It faired very well indeed, doing every condition well. If i had to be critical it was in the boggy - momentum sucking mud, but what tyre would do well in there?
