No more cakes

I'm going to try and get back into shape. I've got a massive belly and none of my clothes fit me anymore. I'm giving up chocolate and as soon as my leg heals i'm starting swimming in the mornings again.
I've also arranged to have a Tuesday and a Thursday off work in return for working some of my holidays. So I will be out for a good ride at least 3 - 4 times a week.
What sort of time do you think I should aim to ride for each day?

My fitness and healthy eating plan has gone down the pan after having a cold and also an extremely busy and tiring period at work.
Try to aim for at least an hour every time, maybe two. And push yourself.

Oh right, thats intresting. Short quick rides.
Should I ride hard for the whole hour or do short 5/10 min intervals for an hour?
I was thinking more along the lines of getting up really early, riding for 3 / 6 hours then getting back for dinner.

Always remember to pick your Uni according to the local trails or you'll be stuck with nowhere to ride for three years!
I've found since I started cycling to work everyday last september my fitness has improved. It means I always do something as it's my main method of transport, I'm not just going to stay at work all night because I can't be bothered cycling.
I'm trying to build up fitness for our local sportive

I couldn't of gone much slower last year. Mind you I did have a broken toe!
Are you going to join us this year Trio?

Stick to low GI foods too.

What's a low GI food that is filling, reasonably nutritious, and suitable for a veggie?
In other words, what can I use 'replace' things like bread, pasta(?) etc

good luck
If your not on the edge.. your taking up too much room!
P.s. I eat the same stuff as before, even more, but I avoid junk food, chips etc.
Diets suck, you gotta go out there, do some work, break some sweat, move...

I do eat far too much junk as snacks, but my main meals are always really healthy.

Wholemeal bread, brown rice, oats, wholemeal pasta, sweet potatos.
I agree with Cazz, it is BLOODY hard to get below your bodys natural weight and keep it off AND have energy too.
( But if I had an hourglass figure like Cazz, I wouldn't bother either!)

Lol. I just think if you're having to force your body to be a shape it's not comfortable with then you're bound to run into health problems/pitfalls. It's taking me a while to realise this and come to terms with being this size, but it's healthiest for me.

Beer is my downhill! [:D]
I can't climb a hill, and not drink one or two at the top! And then I go for the descent. But it doesn't make me drunk and less coordinated, it just relaxes and refreshes me and makes me even more cheerful [:)]

I could be tempted gf3. I've nothing planned that weekend. But I've never gone that far on road and I can't tempt any of my friends to join me. Might try and persuade the OH.

Don't worry about it, if you're serious I will arrange for you both to ride with the Leek lads (and Ruth). So you wont be on your own.
If you do loose the group the route will be very well sign posted; and as it goes around in a big circle so it's actually quite easy to take a shortcut back to the start/finish. There will be loads of marshals / food stops along the way to keep you going.
I'm afraid there are lots of hills so it's real tough ride. But it's well within the abilities of someone that can do a 100k merida.
