Let down by Evans'
I had them 302 Air forks on order from Evans' for œ119. They even took the money out of my account. But then they phoned today saying that they have sold out but I could have the '07 version for the same price.
Now, as I understand, these are not the same, even though thats what Mr ****(head) Evans said, but instead have a lockout and are a pound heavier. Plus, Merlin sell them for only œ5 more so its hardly a magical offer.
Does anybody have any advice on how I should deal with this tosser? I could maybe get something more out of him.

Could you not ask for an upgrade to the 318 version?
Explain how it has inconviencieced you.

I'd definitely go for the 318 Solo air version, or maybe ask for a Recon if you're cheeky.

The Evans site doesnt even seem to sell the 318's. Not surprising really, being as crap as they are.
Might try for the 302 with poploc, I know next to nothing about poplocs though so I dont know if they are worth the effort. Is there anything I should know about poplocs?0 -
Erm, that the poploc is not a substitute for solo air?
Solo air makes the fork much lighter, and is definitely worth it over the bog standard 302 coils. Poploc can be good, but only if you really want/need it.

Looking at Evans' site, what should I go for then?0

Tell them you want your money back and see if you can get the fork you want from somewhere else.

All good advice. There is no 302 solo air for 2007.

Why so offencive? Why is the guy a tosser? He is just doing his job and if they have sold out why should you be entitled to something more? It is hardly as if they have deceived you as they have ofered you the nearest alternative.

Because it is illegal to sell something you don't have, and the 07 version is not the nearest alternative. It is a fork that is a pound heavier. And this is in a sport where people fight to save gramms! No, no, no... If they fleck up, they should offer you a very good deal as compensation.
If I was you, I would explain this very clearly and calmly to the evans people, and get some 318 solo air at least.

When they advertised them they probably had some. By the time they processed his order they didn't. I am sure they didn't deleberately go out to decieve.Whilst they should perhaps offer a small token as a gesture I don't see why he should get some forks worth œ50 more than he paid. I also still don't see why the guy at Evans is a Tosser.

Unfortunately this is the abuse retailers take on a daily basis, especially when it comes to relatively expensive items. People forget that we are also people just trying to make a living, and seem to think we are sub human and doing what we can to spite them personally

Well i half agree with you jonstead, as I doub't very much that the guy who told you over the phone had anything to do with the web not updating itself quick enough, therefore you are the tosser for being a **** to him. However, I think evans should give you a similar fork for the same money, so i don't mean another 302, but rather another air fork with similar specifications, so if that is a 318 then so be it. But being nice and curtious gets you everywhere now adays, if you are a **** to them over the phone then you are less likely to get what you want.

For not knowing thay are two totally different types of fork, or being more helpful. I sincerely just can't stand salesmen in any industry that don't know what they are selling, be it bikes, cars, books, etc... I think there are enough enthusiasts on every industry to fill in the sales jobs, but sometimes this is ignored... Bah, or maybe I am just angry this morning because I didn't get too much sleep, am very bored at work, have a headache and it is sunny outside and I am stuck in an office...

My bike is sat in the garden calling me. I was hoping it would stop if I left it covered but noooooo!!! Think I'm going to have to nip into town, get some food, load up the hydrapak and shoot off into the Chilters for 5 or 6 hours. Hope that makes you all feel happier in the knowledge that one of us is riding for the rest of you

Yes, they should offer a refund or an equivalent product, so in this case Evans are in the wrong, but this can be pointed out politely and a suggestion of an equal product made, rather than abusing someone that could be a trainee
http://www.flickr.com/photos/guilliano/0 -
You shouldn't abuse the person even if they aren't a trainee... that might be the product he was TOLD to offer you.

That's my point. I know what it's like to have abuse hurled at you for simply doing the job you are told to do and so I don't do it myself. Yes you can get frustrated at times, but remaining polite will always mean people are more inclined to go out of their way to help
http://www.flickr.com/photos/guilliano/0 -
Indeed there is no point having a go at anyone, when I worked in retail and we messed up something, we went out of our way to help people who were being nice, offering them a similar price product and a discount, but those who were being idiots we did as little as possible and did not care weather they came back or not.

I've had it at my work... it's sometimes funny!
One guy came in to return a light bracket (œ1.99) because he decided he didn't want it.
"Have you got your reciept?"
He didn't understand why he needed a reciept, so I told him there's nothing I can do.
So he goes off on one and says it's ridiculous that I can't give him œ2 and starts banging the desk and shouting.
So I'm just like, hmm, I think you're going to have to leave now. Bloody idiot!

Real conversation between me and a customer who phoned my shop......
Cx: Why is my f-ing bill so high?
Me: Unfortunately without seeing the bill I can't say. Our customer service department will have access to an itemised version and could explain it to you in detail, or you could bring the bill in and let me go through it with you.
Cx: Why should I have to do that? I've called you, you're O2 so answer the f-ing question!
Me: Please don't shout or swear at me sir. I will see if I can find out the info for you. Can I take your name, address and mobile number so I can call the Care dept?
Cx: No, they should come up on your system when I call in. Are you f-ing useless? Can't you f-ing read? Let me talk to the manager.
Me: I am the manager sir.
Cx: Well in that case I'll get you f-ing sacked for being a useless w-er!
Me: If I'm that useless sir there's no point carring on this conversation sir. Goodbye. <hangs up>
When we recieve a call in the shop it's just like at home, no details available as the line isn't tied into a database and we don't have access to customer accounts anyway. What an idiot! And that sort of thing happens almost daily on the phone and face to face

If the staff are feckless then i'm going to give them hell. If there helpful and polite as i expect them to be when i'm calling there buissnes then so am I. if they dont have the item as described then you are totally within your consumer rights to ask for a full refund, which they must then give you within 30 days. id do that and buy what you want elsewhere.
if you decide to go for their recommendation, you can still ask for a full refund during the cooling off period, which is 7 working days from the day you receive the goods.
on another note, i didnt think it was legal to take money from a customer's account before the item has been verified in stock & packed off. but not sure on that point. i know wiggle dont take the cash until an items in stock.0 -
Try asking them why they took your money when they didn't have the product. Ask them if they new that they did not have the right to do it and what they intend to do about it. Put them on the back foot but politely. shops try to get away with this **** by pretending that they know more abouot your rights, truth is most of them know feck all.
Call the Citizens advice bureau, find out if they were wrong to do what they did.
They are gaining interest on your money now, ok, only pennies, but if it was done on a large scale, it would clearly be wrong, what is different on an individual basis.

It's funny you should say that because they did the same thing to me. I ordered a hydration pack a few weeks ago which showed as in stock online but were out of stock in "reality"....but they still charged me for it. The funny thing was that I recieved an email from them shortly afterwards saying there was a problem with my account and so they needed to verify it by me faxing them some documents. I called them after the weekend to ask why and they told me to ignore that email and that they were going to send the order out anyway. Surely he could have seen this discrepency when checking my order! The swines!
