Some old biker on a local newsgroup is selling a 2005. model RL 80mm fork. I think this guy is dependable, a lot of the guys know him. I don't know much so I need advice from you experts! [:)]
He says the fork is 2.5 years old, has been extended to 100mm, and it had a 90 GBP worth of service on it last year. He's selling it for 165 GBP.
What do you guys think? Is this a good deal? Does a new one cost much more?
Also, if it's that old, but had a major service, would it still be in a good condition, dependable and able to run many more rides?
Would it be a huge improvement over the Dart 3? [:)]
To clip or not to clip, that is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind of men to suffer the dings and contusions of unclipp'd riding, or to bind thy feet against a sea of gnarly singletrack and by these contraptions, ride o'er them with ease. To clip... to slip no more, and by clipping to end the buttache and the thousand natural shocks that ryders are heir to; tis a consummation devoutly to be honed. No clip - to slip perchance to be thrashed most heinously...

extended?
the 100mm was reduced to 80mm you can't extend an 80mm to 100mm
for the money those forks would kill the Darts..
i'd only question the extended part, i suspect he has made a mistake and means they have been returned back to 100mm..
great forks, ask andy22... i sold him my old ones..

It sounds good, the RL is about œ400, sounds like he's looked after it too, so œ165 looks like a bargain.
Fox Forks are some of the best on the market & it will be a world of difference to the RS Dart 3.
I'd have it for that money (I want a new 80-100mm fork for my hardtail)

Seems a bit expensive for an old fork... The quality is unquestionable, Fox doesn't do a bad fork, and the Floats are renowed for being stiff, light XC forks, much better than the Darts, but it will have lost its warranty after so long. Also steerer size is an issue, as it could be to short for your bike!
anyway, with your riding style, wouldn't you be happier with some 130mm adjustable forks?

Well, maybe the expensive service made the fork be like new again (there is some Fox authorized repairman whom they bring Fox forks around here, they say he's expensive but also knows what he's doing).
So if the fork is in a good condition, I'd take it for that price!
P.s. regarding a 130mm adjustable, I wrote to KTM a few weeks ago, they said the 130mm fork would ruin my bike's geometry, but they didn't mention they would somehow damage the frame or something.
I would consider an U-turn fork, to put 85mm at climbs, 100mm on flat terrain, and 130mm when on a downhill ride. Woud that fit with my bike? Or is my frame 100mm only?
