Don't know if a weekend in London's perhaps a bit to close and ordinary for you, but a romantic twist could be an evening meal on one of the Walker's Quay floating restaurants that takes you up to Little Venice and back. And obviously, with London being what it is, there'll be no trouble in finding a show to take in or somewhere to visit; if you decide to have a night in a West End hotel, how about Hampton Court, using the River Services, for a picnic lunch?

If you fancy a short flight to a great city, I'd recommend Barcelona (but try to fly to BCN not GRO)

Prague is a real beauty. Try looking on www.travelzoo.co.uk and click on city breaks.

Barcelona is fab, but if budget wont stretch, how about Brighton? Me and the missus always head down there when we need a few days R&R.
Not sure how it is now, but have a look at Hotel Peliroco. Or if you really want to wow her, one of the big hotels on the front - get a nice sea facing room and you'll be well in. So to speak. )

Prague's nowhere near as bad as some might say. We've been there a couple of times and had no trouble at all, as have plenty of our friends. Just dont walk around with a "I Love Prague" hat on and your wallet sticking out your pocket. Same as any other city really on the common sense front, probably safer than London.
It's stunning, a real nice place. The old city is amazing and the walk up to the Palace is great, just the right number of bars on the way up.
The tube's easy to get around on if you need to. If you fly with Easy jet there's a bus that takes you from the airport right into the city, you can get ticket and weekend travel passes at the airport if my memory serves me right.
As for hotels, we stayed here last time

It's plush and there are some good deals to be had as it's about 3-4 stops outside the center on the tube (metro, whatever). Might be cheaper booking it through expedia or someone like that rather than going direct to the Hotel website.
Stokholm is another nice City to explore, bit pricey though. Stick with Prague, you wont be dissapointed.

Ljubljana is beautiful. Won't cost much when you are there, although I don't know about the cost of getting there.
Let's go drink till we can't feel feelings anymore!
If you can't remember it, it probably happened!

It's the capital of Slovenia, if you can get there I thoroughly recommend Lake Bled.

Johnnymunro.. it is a lovely place. When I went they double booked the room so we ended up in a royal suite. I'd love to go back there. Just a shame it's so far from the city centre

Prague-Every time cheap decent beer and loads of cheap meaty stuff. If you go try 'The platter of Slaughtered Pig' with a pint of frothing Czech lager. If that doesn't sell it i don't know what will. Didn't see any crime, easy to catch bus from airport to centre and trams can get you anywhere you want.0

Go to Lundy and stay in one of the Landmark Trust places.

I've been to a few nice supposedly "romantic" cities; Venice, Barcelona, Saltzberg etc, and I can honestly say the most romantic place I've ever been before is Edinburgh.
It's not the place you go, it's who you go with and what you do when you're there which counts.
