Any views on I-beam saddles/posts?

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a saddle/post combo that's suitable for enduro racing and XC.

I've seen a few good reviews of the SDG I-Fly saddle and I'm torn between the KORE Carbon fibre I-beam post and the SDG "Road only" post.

Has anyone tried these out? They look too good to be true but I'm a bit concerned that without rails there won't be much "spring" so they won't be that comfy.

Cheers,

Ed

Im looking at the I fly C and the KORE Carbon post too. Waiting for saddle reviews in next month's mag first.

Let's go drink till we can't feel feelings anymore!
If you can't remember it, it probably happened!

  • Get a titanium railed saddle like a bel air and a thomson post. You wont regret it. Those i beam things are going to be harsh to say the least, race only imho.

I got the kore combo from chain reaction. Very lightweight for the money. I love mine but with any saddles you have to try em first!!

    Thanks all.

Stuat - that's my backup plan, and I share the same worries as you re: comfort but I'd be interested to hear of first hand experience.

Big AL - Thanks, how comfortable do you find the saddle compared to a normal railed version? Have you had any problems on long rides? Cheers, Ed

I haven't noticed all that much difference other than saddle shape is much slimmer than my old set up (fsa 180 post and Wtb speed saddle). I did manage to lose about 350g though. One thing to remember is that you cant use a saddle pack with I-beam. If you look on Kores website they do an attachment so you can use a railed saddle with an I-beam post. That way if you had concerns about comfort you could swop the seat over rather than the whole post etc.

Ah, I hadn't noticed the attachment. Many thanks for all the info Al, I think I may well give these a try and se how they go.

    Thanks,

I've got the standard I-beam seatpost & bel air saddle, and haven't found it harsh at all. It's a whole bunch lighter than anything else for under twice the price too. Only bad point is that I can't use my saddle pack. They're really cheap at On One.

i run an sdg i-beam post and a bel air st saddle and it is spot on. Very light and very comfortable. It is very easy to make adjustments and you have a lot more range for moving the saddle back or forward and changing the angle. I have been running mine for a year or so and i would highly reccomend it.
