hey
currently riding a tired 2004 FSR XC Pro and wanting to change for something a little better (better drivetrain and brakes and hopefully a bit lighter).
looking at bikes œ2000 (or under) and so far have looked at the specialized epic expert and stumpjumper fsr expert.
i've been prety happy with the ride on the XC Pro, but then it is the first real modern mountain bike I've had.
i manly ride for pleasure but push it hard, with te occasional endurance event and adventure race. also thinking of the transrockies for next year. i'm used to a responsive bike as i have ridden racey road bikes for many years. but handling something too edgey downhill off road doesn't appeal.
so, come on you gear freaks, help me splash the cash!
cheers.

Loads of good bikes at that price range; and the sales start mid July so if you can wait a month or so you can get a real bargain. Best thing is to do some testing in the mean time.
Apart from the spesh bikes mentioned, the Scott Genius MC range, Trek Fuel EX, Cannondale Rush and Prophet, GT I-drive, and the Marin XC bike range all seem to get good reviews. Best thing is to try as many as you can, your bound to fall in love with something.

i recently tried a Specialized with a special kind of rear shock, being new to biking im not certain what it was called, but it was amazing
riding around the car park it 'knew' i wanted it to stiffen up and it did, it was as hard as my hardtail
when you hit more technical stuff then it softens up to be like a full suss, very clever and i was really impressed with it

Ah, the brain shock. may feel different on the trail to a carpark mind. Its a love or hate situation.
Mongoose Canaan winning a lot of tests for performance, weight and value.
