halfords question???

Hi everyone
my girlfriend got a carrera from halfords around christmas.
it has not been used much since then untill the last few weeks where she has done some cycling on the road to university and 1 off road trip with me. problems are stacking up, her gear shifting has totally packed in-only 3 gears are useable at the mo.
is it within my rights to take it back to halfords and ask for them to sort it out as obviously the bike should last a bit better than this?
or am i far too late to do this and have no chance of them fixing it anyway?

sounds like it just needs a service. did it go back for its first free service?
gear cables strech and the gears do need re-adjusting it is part of owning a bike.
have a read of parktools, linky below, and fix it yourself. that will put you in her good books foe a while.

Sounds like the gear cables have stretched. Have a look at Park's website... it's reasonably easy to fix. Otherwise you could take it to a good LBS and pay them maybe œ20 for a gear service

will have a look at it myself and if i cant sort it will take it to lbs for a good sort out.

Err.. Did you have your 6 week check. So many people don't then come back and 'complain' 6 months later when nothing works. Oh.

my bike had its 6 week sevice at edinbrgh bike but there when i asked in halfords they said i should have brought it back even tho i didnt know they offered the service.0 -
Ergh, I really hate the service that the company I work for seems to provide. Why can't they get it together?

I am not saying this is the case here, far from it, but many people do buy bikes and expect them to just run and rum with no adjusting, maintenance and cleaning. Its paramount that you keep it serviced, as you can actually invalidate your warranty by not doing so.
It seems Halfords have offered poor aftersales here, and not told the customer what to expect.

I am one of those who never took mine back
, But when the pedal came off on the first ride
then the lose crank then all the punctures from
rim tape falure
And kind of thought whats the point of going
back if it was built by a monkey at first, Then
with the help of you lot I found the Parktools
site and also the utah site, I found that it's
all pretty easy to follow if you have the tools and
time, and I really enjoy the tweeking side to it now
Maybe I should be thankfull for my local halfords monkey
after all

Always pays in the end to learn. The basics are prety straightforward: gears, brakes, tightening bolts.

LOL Thought i had written your post DSLDude - I bought my carrera Kraken from Halfords and have had loose crank and punctures due to poor rim tape. My wife got one the same time and has also suffered exactly the same problems. Guy in the shop said that rim tape supplied with the Kraken is very poor and should be changed on both wheels immediately. In fact after he did the rear wheel of the wife's he gave me one so i could do the front wheel at home. My 6 week service is due in a week and i'm definitely taking them both in for it. Youve gotta be a narna to not take the bike in for a FREE service havent you? Especially as you are pre-warned at the point of sale that cables will stretch after a while and need adjusting.

Couldn't take mine back anyway, it burnt down two weeks
latter, wasn't me by the way [:D]
