Hi guys,

Well I had my first PROPER fall on Sunday, coming back from Wyre Forest after 15 miles or so.
My friends decided to carry on for a bit and I'm cycling alone along the river when my front wheel hits something, sending me to the left of the track where there happens to be a concrete post.
I hit it at some speed and the next thing I know the bike is on top of me and the post is now very very close to my ribs, THUD, knocking the wind out of me big time!!!
One mile left to home, so after a couple of minutes not knowing where I am, a few deep breathes I pick myself up ,check myself - just winded, check the bike, ripped saddle is that all... cool.
Well ,until I get home that is complaining to my girlfriend that I'm still hurting...
take my top off (girlfriend is about to gag) so I check in the mirror

Starting to feel the pain now, so she rushes me to hospital.
2 hours later - X-ray (no broken bones) and 9 stitches later!!

I thought Sunday's were supposed to be relaxing!??!!

    Omg... AAAARGH! [:0]

I'm not going on another ride without some chobham armour!

To clip or not to clip, that is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind of men to suffer the dings and contusions of unclipp'd riding, or to bind thy feet against a sea of gnarly singletrack and by these contraptions, ride o'er them with ease. To clip... to slip no more, and by clipping to end the buttache and the thousand natural shocks that ryders are heir to; tis a consummation devoutly to be honed. No clip - to slip perchance to be thrashed most heinously...

I didn't realise how bad it was untill I got home, there was no tearing or any mark on my top at all??
Im not sure how deep it was, but it looked as though there was nothing in there???
Just a great big bloody hole, the stuff hanging from it was fatty tissue I was told by the nurse.
That's all Ive been thinking about is going back and knocking that post down if it isn't all ready ha ha.
It's funny now but when I first saw it, I thought umm got to be worth a picture! I must win something somewhere for best mtb injury ha ha ha.
Im ok now thanks, the drugs that the hospital supplied are kicking in nicely ha ha but after it happened it must have been shock and the adrenaline helping!!

Not sure how long I'll be off the bike for, forgot to ask in all the madness; having stitches out in 10 days time but think ill leave it for a couple of weeks after that to heal up.

I'm pretty sure it was the post, when I realised I had crashed I was face down with my left arm hugged around it and my ribs up against it. Just so glad it wasn't an inch or two closer to the important stuff etc!!
