just remember to get your weight back and look well ahead at the path ahead choose the least technical line to increase your speed and the bike should follow your line of sight before you can say "cycle proficancy lessons"
he who dares wins!

One of the best ways of improvingg is by going bigger. After a week in Scotland my skills were heaps better. I now hit jumps, drop offs with style and speed.
The terrain in Milton keynes looks too tame.Get to Wales or Scotland, link up with some better riders and you will improve dramatically.

Agreed, a four days in CYB convincied me that I had more skills than I had previously thought, thus giving me the confidence when I returned to try things I hadn't before

Are trails in Wales really that much better than most of the UK (obviously not Scotland)?

There are bigger mountains in Wales, there seems to be more investment than in England and there are more MTB centres like Cwm Carn, Afan etc. So on the whole I would say yes

find some riding buddies, particularly ones who are better riders than you. imo that's the VERY best way to improve. maybe visit the 'riding' section of the forum, and go along to one.
btw not a fantastically great idea to tell someone who's not been on a bike for very long and who rides on their own to go 'bigger' with no explanation of technique etc. bikeybikey0 -
what about the peak and lake districts? some incredible riding there, and the best thing about them being that they're not man-made, so by and large more technical.
the trail centres are ok, but a bit sanitised imo. good fun though. bikeybikey0 -

Just so you know, I have been riding for about 18 months so not a complete novice! Ride single track 2 - 3 times a week and commute to work (15 miles round trip) evrey day through London.
I've always been a great believer that a coach / lessons can really 'up your game'.
For example I play a lot of golf and after 8 lessons and a few months of practice implementing what I had been thought and having my swing critiqued my handicap went from 24 to 16.
Hoping I can do the same on the bike, if you see what I mean!0
