Transfil Flying Snake cables- frayed

Hi all,

Ive somehow managed to fray one of the strands on my rear mech cable, and before it unwinds into the inner tubing and messes everything up,I guess I should do something about it!

Question is, can I replace the cable with some standard Deore stuff, or is the Snake stuff fancy prelubed or anything?

Yup my front one is knacked and i need a new one just can't bet bothered to replace yet as it still works [:D]

I've just recently replaced the GF's snake/cables with std unlubed (or uncoated?) deore cable. Mainly so that I could solder the ends easily to prevent fraying.
Just lubed them myself with some chain lube once I'd done the soldering.

Easy peasy to do.
1)Cut the cable to length.
2)I removed it from the bike, as I was paranoid about the heat melting something.
3)Clean the end of the cable with (rubbing) alcohol, nail varnish remover etc.
4)Heat the end of the cable with a soldering iron and
5)Touch the tip with some (flux cored) solder.
If you do it right (or are lucky) the solder will flow between the strands of wire for about 1cm. Which won't fray (unlike when I used superglue) when you pull the cable tight with a pair of pliers.
Obviously, just make sure you don't leave a big blob of solder on the end, or it won't go through the housing easily.
