old X.7 witth new X.9

Hey guys

Having maimed my rear derailleur on Penmachno last week end I have an excuse to upgrade...[:p]

I can't think why they wouldn't be but are the x.7 shifters compatable with the new X.9

Also given that merlin and CRC seem to selling them at v low prices, are Avid Juicy Carbons as good as the 7's...agian, can't think whay they wouldn't be but at the mo they re cheaper!!!!

P.S. - i know theres a low chance they ll read this, but thanks to the two guys who went round the last little bit with me, sorry i was too slow to say bye properely i was freewheeling/pushing with half my drivetrain in the rucksack!!!

Can i use the medium cage derailleur with an 11 - 34 cassette and a standard (as far as i know) XT hollowtech chainset

never got any options to choose different ring sizes certainly?!

bike? number of cogs on the front? if 3 then go long. 2 med and 1 short. is a good rule of thumb.

hmm now see i read that it didn't matter if you used medium somewhere (lost it now) and even in a mag or two.....

Its just that i seem to have a habit of breaking mechs, what are the disadvantages of medium over long, or is it a compatability problem?

Medium won't shift as well if you get 3 rings on the front as there will be too much tension through it in the big ring.
