Tewkesbury
Hi
I've just moved to Tewkesbury and havent used the MTB yet locally. Are there any others that can drag me out without having to use the car (although I don't realy mind getting the car out) I'd like to find some local routes and riders.
Shut up and ride (if your not at work)

Hey.
I'm from Cheltenham and can show you some local routes. Tewkesbury is pretty flat but there's Cleeve Hill (haven't ridden there in ages) and Leckhampton Hill (always up there) around Cheltenham. You'll have to use your car to get there unless you want to ride about 10 miles on road.
Cotswold routes are easy to get to and there are quite a few maps available, although I've never used neither of them (always planned to buy them though).

The Malverns are pretty close as well and South Wales is very easy to get to.

Hi Hole Nut, you could also try the Forest of Dean,
http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/ourw ... FODCATrail
though that requires a drive too. Haven't tried their trail yet, going to soon, it's had a write up in mbr last month. I also live in Cheltenham, and go to Leckhampton Hill, and also haven't tried Cleeve Hill/Common for some time. Read somewhere the Malverns are good, they're not too far, but again need the car.0 -
Cheers for the responses guys!
Yeah you are pretty close and if you contact me at andre.dallibar@trltech.co.uk
we can arrange a get together if you want.
I'm busy for a few weeks, off to Manchester for work then I'm in Wales riding the Marin trail for a days. so anytime mid July is great for me. I'm riding a Sc Heckler right now but soon it will be a Yeti 575 to give you some idea of my riding style.
I went to the Malverns and rode for about 3 hours there, flippin steep! I've been mainly using the road bike round here cos it's fast and flat.
Cheers

hi, everyone i live in cheltenham aswell and i ride a lot at Leckhampton Hill. can anyone can tell me have any different place i can ride but not too far because i haven't got a car. thank you.0
-
Oh, cool! I'm starting saving for a Heckler frame. 'Course wont be for another year and half, but that's not long off. [:p]
Giantrincon: The only places that are really local to us are Cleeve and Leckhampton, if you set out in the morning you'd be able to ride on the road to get to some routes around the Cotswolds..
There's always the Forest of Dean as well which you can reach on the train. I think you get off at Lydney and ride a few miles to the cycling centre at Cannop.

If some of you fancy a trip to Forest of Dean in mid July, I'd like to meet up down there. I don't mind picking one or two of you up on the way. it's better for global warming that way.

actually how far to Forest of Dean because i haven't got car. it's that good out there? thank you.0

Would like to meet up too, and would like to try out trail. I have transport, and possibly a space depending on what day of the week/end we go. Went and rode the more sedate forest paths a little while ago, didn't get to do the trails, but they seem pretty popular of a Sunday. Signed up to the FODCA trail group last night to see what news comes through. If anyone wants to meet up Lecky Hill during the week let me know, but I don't do Wednesdays!0

Are you free in the day on Friday Pete?

no i free on next thursday.0

I work in the day, quite often 6 days a week, usually only Sundays free (but can usually free up Saturday afternoon), and evenings (gotta keep using them as they're gonna start shrinking again after the 21st!).0
-
Cool, I'm pretty much the same. Evenings I'm free are Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So yeah, if you want to go for a bash then I'm all up for it.
Have you ridden down Charlton King's common before?

You can get to it from Leckhampton. You know when you go right to the top, up on those cliffs and you ride round and down those few drops, then before you go back down that curvy path to the bombhole area?
There's some tracks there and if you go down one it's about 1.5 mile decent. It's very, very rocky and fast, you'll end up near Lilley Brook golf club. If you drive up to the Daisybank carpark then it's a really bad route to take because you'll have to ride back up Leckhampton road again.
Magic: Definately. I'll be in contact!

Hey! I started this thread [:D]
I'm not free to ride for a while, work commitments and trips away (biking in Wales) I'll repost when I'm available and we can arrange a road trip down to the Forest of Dean. I'm intrigued about these local places. When I lived near Bath I travelled out with a mate and did a ride down near J14 on the M5. I intend to go back again soon when he's free from parenting for a day. if you can all send me an email to my address as posted above I'll track you all down later...Thanks!
