Thinking about getting some just to make the otherwise plain frame look a little nicer. Just wondering if anyone else has done similar and if they lasted well.

Thinking have some made up by anyone of the numerous people who offer it on ebay, and then run some sort of frame protector around it.

Tell me im not the only one who wants go faster stripes please.

Hmm, I'll need some when I revive my old bike, want to repaint it and put some decals to make it look original [:)]

Haven't looked for the decal maker yet, but I guess it could be as simple as using some kind of a color printer on a sticky foil?

To clip or not to clip, that is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind of men to suffer the dings and contusions of unclipp'd riding, or to bind thy feet against a sea of gnarly singletrack and by these contraptions, ride o'er them with ease. To clip... to slip no more, and by clipping to end the buttache and the thousand natural shocks that ryders are heir to; tis a consummation devoutly to be honed. No clip - to slip perchance to be thrashed most heinously...

If you really want it to last, you need to ensure the decals are compatible with an over-laquer and then get the frame laquered. That will prevent them form peeling off and it "incorporates" them into the frame so they don't just sit proud (if that makes sense).

  • hmm, that makes sence is laquering somthing that can be done by anyone or does it need a skilled hand/expensive machinary or it jsut a case of painting over it with the stuff drying clear?

You can make a decent job with a spray can. The secret is not in putting it on really but being patient and rubbing it back with very fine wet'n'dry (800 or 1000 grit). If you're going to do it you need to strip your frame, degrease, put your new decals on, mask the BB, headtube etc. and hang the frame up (from the seat post for example). Then spray 3 fine coats letting each one dry before doing the next. Then rub it back with wet'n'dry dipped in clean water until the surface looks flat. Then dry and respray. Keep going like this until you get the depth of laquer you want, then rub it down one last time.

Remember when your rubbing back, you're only flattening the surface, not trying to remove the coat, so be gentle. Finally polish it up with T-cut to remove the last traces of wet'n'dry marks.

  • Hmm this seems to be a good way to ruin a frame and generally devalue my bike not to mention making it look awful. ILL DO IT!
