BB Shell x Thread

I'm worried my Orange ev04 frame is gonna be on its way the Bike Heaven[V]

I had my bike serviced at Rutland Water Cycles last summer and they fitted a new BB (Race Face SRX ISIS). The BB is now buggered... So un able to remove it my self to fit a replacement I took it to my lbs for them to remove it. They've just rang to say managed to undo the non drive side, but on the drive side it won't undo past the last couple of threads. they suspect it was cross threaded when installed. If this is the case am I going to have to say goodbye the my failful stead.

Over the last 4 years I've spent a fair bit on upgrading so would be upset to say cheerio to her.

Any thoughts...

IF it does die take all the good bits off and ditch the frame. If the people who fitted the bb cross threaded it take it up with them.

lol, not problem you have an excuse to go and buy your self a new frame, on a serious note dont think that the shop that fitted it will do anything to be honest,

Cheers guys...A new frame would be nice but why do these things always happen when your skint!?

I'll have a go at taking back to Rutland Cycles and see wot they say...they at least might do me a favour on a new frame[?]

So my next question will be probably be which frame to go for?

I'll let you know how things go..

Was the BB installed last year and the bike ridden during the winter? It could just be the BB has cold welded itself to the frame and needs specialised attension to free up. Once released the frame can be recut or if necessary an insert can be used.

It's unlikely the original shop could have got the BB installed if X threaded, more likely they did not use (enough) anti seize or the winter has taken it's toll. With the non drive side off you can at least soak the whole thing in penetrating oil for 24 hours then get them to try again, a bit of persistence on your part will save you buying a new frame!

Had a result!![8D]

On the BB there is a rib running around the body inbetween the threaded areas. This was catching on a high spot where the seat tube is butted to the BB shell.

So all is well.
