Footwear
My foot has slipped of a pedal a few times now and it really does hold me back at times. Like, going down sharp steep hills with obstacles, you really have to take it slower than you would because you know that they could slip off at anytime. Not to mention the pain it can deliver on shins!
So, I have been looking at footwear with better grip. I have seen a few that looked OK but I have no idea if the grip is increased enough to make it worth me buying.
Sometimes, if its wet, my footwear can end up highly muddy, are there shoes that are easily wiped?
Are there certain shoes that are highly though of?

Five Ten shoes are supposed to be very good.0
-
Thanks for that. I found a page on them here http://www.stif.co.uk/shop/mb_software_ ... en&cat=211
They do look good although fairly expensive. Why do I always like the look of the more expensive things, typical!0 -
Might be worth looking at your pedals, i had the same problem with the pedals on my rock hopper, changed to a set of dmr v12's and my feet stick like glue no matter what traiers i wear.

Do the job veeery well, but don't dare whack your shins with them!! [:0][B)]

Anybody own these and have a picture of how high they are and how they look? http://www.stif.co.uk/gear/select_optio ... uctid=49370

Shimano DX's are great, and people keep telling me fivetens are great too. The DX's have a flap that encloses the laces and wipe clean very easily. They stay on DMR V8's fine.
You could always go clipless. Your feet won't slip then. AS for shin pain, i've just bought some knee/shin guards (Fox). Haven't tried them yet...0 -
Thanks Tony.
When you say Shimano DX's do you mean these? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... 56%20Shoes
I was looking at them and really liked them. They are also a lot cheaper than the fivetens. By the way, I dont have clips, if that changes any suggestions.
I really liked them fivetens but they really are a little too pricey. The Shimano DX's are looking good, the price is great and I like the lace cover.
Is it a good idea to upgrade to a better as well? This is something that I wont be doing in a hurry though as ive just checked the prices of the DMR's! Ive just got very basic pedals at the moment(plastic).0 -
Cheaper from CRC : http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7867
I've got a pair and they are really comfy and grippy.0 -

They are the same as the impact Hi only difference is they are 2007 version. They cover your ankle for protection if that's what you mean.0 -
Yup, I paid œ45 for my DX's and they're really comfortable and warm too. I got the SPD compatible versions, but I haven't bothered putting cleats in them yet. I wear them as normal shoes too.
DMR V8's can be picked up for about œ20 or less making them pretty cheap, and i'm told wellgo do an almost identical version for even less.
The slippage is probably due to the plastic pedals more than the footwear, and they'll probably break quite quickly, making an upgrade unavoidable0 -
Thanks for that.
Have you ever come across a reason not to wear your DX's as normal shoes even though they are cleat compatible?
Where are you seeing the DMR's for œ20? Everywhere I seem to look they're expensive.
*Stupid question alert* Is there such a thing as clip pedals that are OK to use when not wearing cleat compatible shoes?0 -

Yep, I have a pair of 5.10 high tops impact 2s
They are the absolute dogs danglies, stick to the flats like no other shoe. Really comfy, provide a lot of support and being high tops have the ankle protection built in.
you did know that 5.10 (Five ten) specialise in climbing shoes, for rock climbing. This is why the soles are so grippy.
Although very grippy the soles do not break up on the pedal pins.
If you want good shoes for flats, buy some. CRC are selling them cheaper than Stif.
Crank brothers Mallet Cs are good with or without cleats. As they have quite large platform
