Burnt Whtye 46 replacement

After a recent garage which destroyed my 3 month old Whyte 46(Fox forks) I've finally been paid out by my insurance company. This means i've got œ2600-œ2800 to spend. I was just going to get the whyte again having loved my short time on it. But i thought i'd get your opinions first. I ride at Afan and all the welsh trials. What should I get or should i stick with the Whyte ?????

noooo don't want one of those (hides order for new black ano heckler frame) stick with the Whyte [:P]
you can't ask me that... i am sooooooooooooooo biased about SC bikes it's like asking a goodridge rep if his brake cables are the best [;)]
i love the heckler it can do everything.. Wales (i go this weekend to Cwmcan and i will be doing the trail and the DH course.. at a slow speed no doubt) it builds up in my spec to under 30lbs, peddles great with a rp23 and on the downs it spanks the whyte (i used to have the tara on the wolf ridge, which it IS one of the best rear ends on a FS bike) but the heckler is SOOOOOOO fun on the downs it makes up for the lack of technical excellence with 200% more fun factor and play factor.

F'ING awesome......
ask mud.. Pike forks are wicked (pay for the Ano frame... powercoat adds 1lb and is not as hard wearing as ano) swap the DHX air to RP23 and you have a KICK ASS bike but you need to test ride one.. that is a lovely spec though....

Another thumbs up for the Pikes (although obviously I'd recommend putting them on a Cove Hustler over the Heckler frame![;)]). Amazed by my Pikes so far. Plush straight out of the box. I thought my Rebas were good, on my hardtail, but the Pikes are another level all together.

Brakes , wheel , fork and shock

Frame: Heckler
Colour: Black (ANODISED)
Fork: Pike 454 Air U-Turn 100-140mm
Shock: Fox RP23
Drivetrain: XT throughout
Disc Brakes: Hope M4's or Shimano Saint brakes 180mm rotors
Wheels: Pro 2 / XM321 < great wheel build.. look at the 719 rim as another choice if you want to loose a little more weight but still have a strong wheel
Tyres: Kenda Nevegal 2.35 <<< tyres are really personal
Grips: WTB Trail << again personal..
Seatpost: Thomson
Saddle: WTB Rocket Stealth Ti << again personal i prefer my Fizik Gobi
Stem: Thomson X4 31.8mm
Bars: WTB TXC 31.8mm riser << again personal i prefer a wider higher rise bar
Headset: Hope or CK price / funds dependant.

I agree with Fozzy's spec, apart from I wouldn't go with Hope brakes. For everyone I know who likes Hopes, I also know someone who has had very bad experiences with them. Shimano on the other hand, ultra reliable. And I'd be tempted by DT Swiss rims over the Mavics, probably either 4.2's or 5.1's depending on your intended use.

Love my hopes... they beat Juicy's, easy to look after, no hassle and just work, well IMO.. again brakes are fairly personal.. won't fit anything else to my bikes..
i on the other hand have seen first hand damage of 5.1 rims after the mega avalanche and it looks like someone has hit them with a 1lb lump hammer... not my bag baby.. would rather fit a Stans ZTR Freeride rim.

Having just seen one in the LBS, I second that! That would be my dream bike ala last WMB issue.

Nice build, i'd go for Formula oros, and ex721 rims are only a few grams heavier than xm321 and are stronger. 719 or dt5.1 will be fine unless you are mental! Lyriks are sweet forks too.0

I'd have a Gary Fisher Supercaliber if I was going to buy a full suspension. I love them.

I was hooked on getting a Santa cruz BLur LT for months...When you get on different bikes and demo them you find the flaws.VPP for me has too much pedal feedback and brake jack.I even tried the Intense 5.5.Wicked bike fast aggressive but too much pedal feedback again. It has the feeling of the rear hub not engaging as you pedal when you go over rough stuff.Like a blank of thin air in the pedal stroke. When you brake on techchnical downhill stuff the suspension jacks up and in the case of the Intense 6.6 can sometimes literally catapult you forward when you let go of the front brake with the frame opening back up again like a spring. Try a Commencal Meta 5.5>Its the futureMe http://www.flickr.com/photos/8779009@N03/622132744/
