I'm spending a week in Wales in a month, just outside Machynlleth, I've done the beast at C-Y-B, which was good fun, any other recommended trails in the area within about an hour's drive?

The Cli-machx is only a few miles cycle from Machynlleth itself. It's an okay trail. The big descent at the end doesn't live up to the hype but it's probably okay if you don't ride regularly in Scotland. [;)]

Gonna hike up Snowdon!

There are 5 of us in the group, only 3 bikers, of which only 2 are confident on the techier stuff! (yeah, one of them is me, before you start!)

Gonna goto the Alternative Energy Centre & Portmeirion. (do the tourist stuff whilst hungover!)

So looking for something that all can tackle & still have a good time.

The trail centre at Nant-y-arian is about 20 miles south by road (near Aberystwyth): worth doing the Continental Trail which mixes some swoopy man made trails with some epic wilderness stuff; but there are two shorter trails both doable for relative beginners I would think.

Dont bother with the Mach 1, 2 & 3 trails: a lot of climbing for little pay back. There are some great descents in the Dyfi Forest (which is where the Climachx trail is) but you'll need local knowledge - ask in the bike shop - and they might be a little intimidating for novices.

A litlle further south, about an hour, there are some great natural trails in the Cambrians, near Tregaron: I dont have maps of them but I can give you details if you're interested. Some tricky stuff but they have a nice epic feel.
