presta / shrader / woods.....why
plain lazy

Am i missing something or is there really no advantage to having presta valves on mountain bikes. I aacept that they are required on road bikes with tyre pressures of over 100psi but find them pointless on the lower pressures of mountain bikes. I find them flimsy and am never 100% happy about pumping them up with a mini-pump. I have used woods valves which were brilliant and think that shraders are totally acceptable on mtb's. It it just another of those pretentious things where all bikes below a set price have shraders and all bikes above have prestas. surely with air forks and shocks using shraders to pressures over 200psi there really is no need for this type of valve.

Presta can be a little quicker to inflate, as you may have to work against the spring with a Schraeder - might make a difference if trying to pump upto 50 psi with a micro pump. Many people like both, either or.

presta are no better for presure than any other valve. their only advantage is that they are narrower and can be used on skinny road rims with less problems. racers (XC,CX etc ) like presta as you can semi inflate them by mouth quicker changes. Woods work but having to dismantel the valve to change the tube is no fun in the mud and the rain.
it all come down to personal choice and what is available.

Aye, I go with whats available. The mouth inflate is a useful asset of presta, but whilst there not a "meaty" as schrader, I don't think theres anything to complain about. Never had a confidence problem with them before.
